Never been an avid cyclist.......and don't like cycling on the road.............but with the lockdown and things I've been walking around my local area for first time since moving here 6 yrs ago, finding Antonine Wall route, and canal routes.

Thinking these routes would give a good excuse to get the mountain bike out of mum & dads garage thats been hanging up for a good 10 yrs or so now, having only been used a handful of times.

Just wondering, as its been hanging up, and not sitting on its wheels, I know the tyres will need pumped up but is there a chance the tyres would be perished at all??
What else would need to check, apart from oiling the chain?

    Thanks

To be honest it should be pretty straightforward.

Personally I'd grab some new tyres and inner tubes as they aren't expensive and you don't want the current tyres to give out when you're mid-cycle.

The gear selectors may need a quick check to make sure they're moving freely and working properly and if your bike has suspension then give it a little check in case the seals have perished. You could also give the pedal crank a once over to make sure it's solid and spinning nicely. Other than that it should just be a case of oiling the chain and donning some spandex

Oh... and I'd recommend grabbing a helmet, regardless of how gentle a cycle you are going.
