diesel engine

    ok we know the best way to improve a diesel engine performance is to buy petrol......but what CAN be done?



    I've grown up with petrol cars and changing the exhaust and the air filter to make them 'breathe' more easily.......but needing to know what can be done to improve a diesel.

    Never take it above 2,000 rpm.

    The basic principles are the same - the first steps will always be to optimise the breathing, fuelling and timing.

    That having been said, I'm not sure you'll see the same gains as you would on the equivalent petrol engine, although gains will still be there to be had.

    A lot of folks tend to delete the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) in the pursuit of performance but this will result in an MOT fail and will also lead to a rather sooty cloud shooting out the exhaust every time you floor it.

    You could have a look around for plug-and-play remaps for the SD but to be honest I'd simply fill the tank up with fuel and go out and enjoy the car you've got.

    Have you got the SD or the D ?
    The SD is restricted by the DPF, a remap would take you to 180ish BHP with the DPF you can break the 200ís and very little other mods needed, bearing in mind that itís the torque that counts with these guys ( I canít remember the exact figures sorry)

    With the D on the other hand I believe aftermarket inter coolers for the petrols fit, further than that Iím not sure sorry
