Just wondering what people’s vehicle ownership history has been that has lead them to the current chariot ?

For me it’s been pretty varied over the years with some pretty bad purchases

I should add I started driving in 1989, one of my favourite cars was the Renault 19 16v, awesome motor all round, the TTRS was a beast but always felt big !

    1. Vauxhall Nova 1.2L built 1983 nice first car I bought from my grandad

    2. Ford Escort XR3i built 1989 cracking car until it was stolen

    3. Mazda 818 sedan built 1972 project I never started

    4. Renault 19 16v built 1992 amazing car all round, really loved this car, traded it at around 130,000 miles

    5. Renault Megan coupe 1.6 built 1995 was a tad gutless

    6. Citroen Saxo VTR built 2000 the most plastic interior I’ve owned

    7. Alfa Romeo 146ti built 2001 beautiful car, amazing engine and comfortable to drive

    8. Alfa 156 veloce built 2002 nice big cruiser

    9. Citroen C4 VTR built 2005 interesting car, not my fav but was ok

    10. Renault Clio 1.2 built 2005 needed a cheap run around

    11. Renault Clio 1.6 built 2005 slight upgrade from the 1.2

    12. Renault Clio 182 built 2005 little go cart, great soundtrack, nippy, and great handling

    13. Ford Fiesta 1.6 SD built 2006 needed a diesel for a change of jobs, not a great buy but served a purpose

    14. Renault Clio 182 built 2005 loved it, as above

    15. Renault Clio 197 built 2007 crap interior but decent wee car

    16. Honda Civic type R built 2008 that engine is awesome, amazing exhaust note when the vvti kicks in

    17. Audi TT mk1 V6 built 2004 cracking car into the mechatronic unit failed

    18. Audi TT mk2 V6 built 2008 hated this car soooo much

    19. Audi TT mk2 TTS built 2009 awesome car, fast, solid build and comfy

    20. Audi TT mk2 TTRS built 2010 what an engine and soundtrack

    21. Audi TT mk3 TTS built 2016 nice and quick, constant exhaust fart, nice tech but an uninvolved drive

    22. Audi TT mk1 V6 built 2005 off spot for the mk1 TT

    23. Mini mk3 JCW built 2018, I’m really enjoying the F56, love the pops and bangs and it’s nippy

2001 Ford Focus 1.6 - brilliant first car and had something like 150k miles on it when I sold it... took an absolute battering and kept going

2005 BMW 118d E87 - think the worst car I’ve had. Boring and things kept breaking. Got rid of it after 18 months

2009 BMW 320d E92 - loved it. Best car I’d had until the MINI

2015 BMW M135i F20 - brilliant engine and a blast to drive but overall a bit bland

2019 MINI Cooper S F55 - only three months in but best car I’ve owned. Don’t need to say any more, really

    Here goes....

I got my licence in 2003 when I was 17

    1. 1988 Citroën BX 16RE- was given to me when I was 15, the only car I've ever sold for a profit

    2. 1988 Vauxhall Nova 1.3 Saloon- bought for £99 when I was 15, drove it back home myself with my dad following

    3. 1991 Nissan Micra 1.0LS- My first car after acquiring my driving licence loved that car, absolutely bulletproof, that car took some abuse

    4. 1994 Peugeot 405 1.6 GL- done some very tasteful mods to it including a back box with a 4.5 inch tip, sounded amazing

    5. 2003 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2- my first relatively new car, also done some mods that's probably the only car I'd look back at and say I should have left some of the mods off it

    6. 1996 Subaru Legacy 2.2- that car was phenomenal, one of the few cars I'd have again in a heartbeat. Also fitted an outrageous backbox and nice silver Impreza WRX alloys

    7. 1995 Vauxhall Corsa 1.5 TD- needed an economical car for my commute from Ayrshire to Glasgow. It had a mechanical pump which I turned up to make it stupidly quick for what it was, but the smoke coming out the back was ridiculous the back was constantly covered in soot.

    8. 1988 Jaguar XJ6 3.6 (XJ40)- that car was fast, and way ahead of it's time with its digital dashboard

    9. 1997 Volvo V40 2.0- heated leather seats and very reliable except for 5th gear needing tightened every now and then (a 5 min job)

    10. 1996 Alfa Romeo 146- You're not a car enthusiast until you've owned an Alfa apparently

    11. 2003 Ford Focus ST170- hated that car, the only car I've bought and hated! It lasted 3 months before I got rid in that short time I had to replace the fuel pump and had the back end step out at around 30mph in the wet, thankfully I was able to control it.

    12. 2004 Mazda RX-8 (231) - Another car I truly loved and would have again, very tail happy in the wet but so controllable

    13. 2008 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Ghia- loved it but wasn't fast enough

    14. 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX wagon- in the usual WR blue. I've always been a Scooby fan, I miss that car sometimes.

    15. 2000 Ford Fiesta- needed a cheap runaround for my commute from Edinburgh to Glasgow

    16. 2006 BMW 320d SE e90- this car was another cracking car, never missed a beat, great on fuel and once I fitted the LCI M Sport interior with i-drive it was perfect

    17. 2013 MINI JCW R56- I loved that car and another I miss, but it had to go before the warranty was up and to make way for the bike.

    18. 2004 Renault Clio Extreme 1.5dci- another cheap car for the commute, crap in the snow

    19. 2007 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Titanium X- a great car for my long commute, definitely a bargain

    20. 2018 MINI Cooper S Works 210 F56- a great car but just feels its missing the character of the R56

Not included was my first motorbike a BMW F800R- had loads of reliability issues but it was definitely a great first bike and makes me want another BM bike.

Jaguar XJ6 very jealous. Disappointed to hear about the ST170... always fancied one after my first Focus. Or one of the first RS’ but they’ve gone up in £££ massively.

    1. 1998 Nissan Micra Twister (now people know how I got my username) and longest I have ever owned a car aka 3 years.
    2. 2003 Nissan Micra E (spent more time in the garage in a year, unrealible pile of Nissan/Renault junk)
    3. 2001 Ford Focus Zetec
    4. 2005 Skoda Fabia VRS (car I regret selling and could have bought it back at the start of this year)
    5. 2008 Ford C-Max Zetec (do not know why, no family at the time, that broke on the M6!!)
    6. 2008 Skoda Fabia 2 TDi estate (basic motoring)
    7. 2011 Toyota Yaris SR (my first brand new car and second longest car I had owned)
    8. 2009 Ford Focus Zetec (first child was on way, needed a bigger car)
    9. 2011 Kia Cee’d Sportwagon (loved this car, I took it to a couple of track days, was tuned from 110bhp to 140bhp, sadly it was written off by a taxi when my wife and son were in car)

    10. 2012 Vauxhall Astra SRI CDTI (owned for 10 months but with child number two having arrived it was struggling getting two buggies in the rear)

    11. 2018 Skoda Fabia S Estate 1.0 (still have as it serves as a family car, again basic motoring, but it’s a cracking wee car in its own right, work it hard and it’s a joy to drive....)

And then there was was the project/second cars, when I owned the Astra and our family car, somehow I thought because my mate had a Micra, I wanted one as a project car to work on.....

1999 Nissan Micra Inspiration owned for two months, was running 17 inch K12 Micra alloys and a loud exhaust, I had forgotten how rotten Micras could be, went for it’s MOT and was deemed a cheeseboard...... so on the way back from the MOT station I had looked at a stunning mark 3 Golf GTI and a 2003 Fiat Stilo Abarth..... bought the Arbarth.... rapid car, full comfy leather sela speed gearbox, which would let me down two months later, spent two months at the dealers while they sourced a replacement part on the Gear box, got the car back and left it for a month and lost heart in it, managed to get it started to find it had developed a major oil leak so just scrapped it.......

Then in September last year after attending the Selkirk Rally I decided I wanted another weekend toy like a old skool Ford, but somehow I ended up looking at a Dark Silver Mini and a black Mini at a dealer in Edinburgh, decided I liked the Dark silver mini, so went up and had a look and a test drive, had never considered a Mini Before and the test drive I really enjoyed, it’s not really a weekend car for me, more my daily......

So for car Number 14 is my current car 2009 Mini One Graphite.

Sound a bit like that Hubnut Guy on YouTube with the amount of cars I have owned since 2001!

    Davy
2009 Mini One Graphite, Minibitz Stubby aeril, Minibitz Beltline Kit, Headlight and rear lights dechromed Minibitz Black Mini Badges, Front Tow Hook, Pipercross Air Filter, Scorpion Red Power Non Reasonated Exhaust, JCW R105 Alloys! Sunstrip, Tartan Interior Mirror Cover, Osram Nightbreakers, Halfords Super Advanced Sidelight Bulbs, Black Rear Spoiler, Ultraguage, Smoked Side Repeaters, GP2 JCW Gear Lever, SMPS Black Grille Slats, Neo Brothers Strutbrace, Yellow Details..........What's next to do??

Vauxhall Corsa SXi - first car, came with 2 years free insurance which was a massive help

R50 Cooper - great car, just needed more power. Hence...

R53 JCW (still own) - brilliant, brilliant little thing. Modded a bit, will never sell

Volvo 850 - was slightly concerned about mileage on the JCW as a daily, and needed something for the mountain bike, so either needed a jack of all trades 330i tourer - or a cheap £650 shed like this. Fabulous car that never let me down. Only got rid of it under the scrappage scheme, so got £3k for it However, the new car was...

Corsa SXi Ltd thing - dreadful. Should never have allowed myself to be persuaded by family to buy a brand new car. Lasted less than a year. When I think what I could have bought for the money instead...

E61 530d (still own) - proper workhorse, will keep it until it dies. Can't ever love a diesel engine, but 6 cylinders help and it does everything I need it to

550 Maranello (still own) - the childhood dream, and it's everything I hoped it would be. Will also never sell

E85 Z4 3.0si (still own) - possibly the best mass-produced engine ever IMO, just spectacular - responsive and revvy, things a turbo engine just can't match. Still looks a fresh design at 13 years old, it's just the electric steering that lets it down. The 530d has better steering! Nice to have a roadster when the sun is out, so also unlikely to sell as it appears to be bulletproof

R56 Cooper S - would make a perfect daily if it wasn't for the crazily stiff suspension. Did 50mpg all day long and a torquey little thing, but felt a bit grown up compared to the R53 IMO; too good/sensible an all-rounder to be a weekend/second fun car, but compromised a little with the suspension to be the perfect daily. Went as part of the divorce settlement (I kept the 4 others though!)

The current fleet ticks all the boxes I need - estate/family car, hot-hatch/track fun, V12 GT, and roadster. Never owned a V8 though so that will be next, in what flavour I'm not sure yet. Possibly a Jag to increase reliability - the secret to having a more reliable car is to have more cars

Feet were made to fit car pedals. If we were meant to walk, we'd have pogo sticks for legs
