Hi all just not long bought this r56 cooper. It was running well but now it seems to blow ample after idling for a few mins. Then rev it it smokes doesn’t do it when driving . Just when you stop and let tick over for a min. Then give a rev and puffs smoke out exhaust.
Any ideas? Was told possible valve stem seals. It’s done 78k miles

You say it does not do it when driving but try and see if it does it on over run ,try it going down a hill accelerate and then lift off with no throttle and see if there are any signs of burning oil ,the definitive way of finding out would be to have a cylinder leakage test carried out .have you checked to see how much oil you are using ?
The cars in front are New MINI Scotland

Hi thanks. No it doesn’t seem to do it that way either
I haven’t checked to see how much oil it’s using as just done a service and after taking it to Edinburgh and back it done it in traffic so parked it up as was miffed at it.
It only does it when idling in traffic rev to pull away. A puff of smoke then nothing until same situation happens again. While driving doesn’t seem to be any smoke at all
