Drop in revs when cold

As the title suggests, my mini is prone to a serious drop in revs when moving off when cold. The revs drop to the point that it feels like it’s going to stall but it rarely does, it also makes a horrible rattley noise when it does this. It’s mainly an issue on my way home from work as I have several junctions and roundabouts to negotiate before the engine warms up. Any ideas???

I take it that it is fine when warm? I wonder if it throws up any codes, your welcome to use my code reader if that would help?

Yes, fine once it’s warmed up. It’s been on a code reader at the garage (thanks for the offer) a few months ago and all it was coming up with was the issues with the bypass valve doo-daa (now replaced).

Have you had the car remapped? Could be a map issue

My Cooper s tends to do this as well unless in sports mode. Pulling away from a junction is sluggish if not in sport mode. I push sports button as soon as I start engine now.
Since the throttle is driven by wire, wonder if there is a connection between your low revs and the pedal. When you first start the engine, does the engine rev responsively with blips of throttle? Are you using sports mode when the near stalling happens?

Sounds similar in that the only the only way round it is to stick sports mode on although occasionally this hasn’t helped. The only downside with this is the wheel spin at roundabouts!

Not had this issue from Cold, but I have had one instance of the car when warm doing this, trying to stall or put itself into stop start mode, it's not repeated itself so just putting it down to the car having a off day!
