ok, i now that the round keyfob has a wee back up key you can use if the batteries go, but it got me thinking. The key will get you into the car using the door lock, but how would you start it? i dont see a bit for the key to go in to give you ignition etc, only the bit for the fob?

Not going to start as you say unless you have MINI connected ( I think)
The cars in front are New MINI Scotland

Would need to be started as normal. As the post where the key goes also charges the battery

If the key was flat/not working, once you got in I suppose a bump start would be your only option.

Feet were made to fit car pedals. If we were meant to walk, we'd have pogo sticks for legs

I think it's more so you can get the door open to open the bonnet then you have access to the battery

I had this problem. Key only opens the door. Get yourself a DB Power quick starter from Amazon to jump start it. Easy

But does the round bit of the key require power to work in the ignition ?
    For immobiliser purposes !
(In case the key battery goes flat)

The fob should still work in the ignition if the key is dead, the immobiliser chip shouldn't require power. Of course I could be wrong but I highly doubt it.
