I got this info from Gerry (Moonshine) on MINI2

" You should try Iain Ross - bodywork specialist in Luncarty (4 miles north of perth) - he isn't a "BMW bodyshop", but Grassick BMW use him coz he is so good."

Gerry, I took your advice and got Iain to do the repairs, he was marginally less expensive than the quote from my dealer (who uses a third party repair shop). The dealer's estimate was also inclusive of the rear mudflap so it worked out about the same price by the time I took petrol into account. Anyway, I thought it sensible to go with a personal recommendation rather risk the unknown.

The repair job looks good, though the car is not cleaned up yet, but I think it will all polish up nicely. I have still to replace the mudflaps.

Spent this evening cleaning up the inside of the car, they did put some sort of dust covers over the driver's seat and carpet, but I suspect this was an after thought because they had grease on the driver seat cloth, white dust on various parts including the passenger seat and door panels. Mud all over the carpet and pedals. Looks like they attempted to wash the bonnet with a muddy cloth.

Maybe I'm just too fussy, but as the car was immaculate inside and out when I took it in, I would have expected it to be so when I got it back.

Oh and they don't accept credit cards, so I had to get to a cash machine at Asda to pay them.

Apart from all of that I'm very happy, thanks for the help Gerry and see you soon.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the Sunday, unfortunately we can't make the Saturday evening meal, would have been great.

Got the car washed today and the bumper looks fine after a bit of Zymol and elbow grease, also replaced the mudflap that was scuffed. Found that the coachworks had lost two of the mounting rivets - so have asked them to mail me them. Anyway it will do for now.

Last thing - I had a wee go at touching up the stone chips on the bonnet- not a bad job with my cocktail stick and cotton buds and then some polish to bring it down. If I had remembered I would have got the paintshop to do them when they were doing the bumper.

3GGG - I would have made more fuss when i picked the car up if they left it in that state - if they were comparible to the dealer quote there is no-way the cost of the valet wasn't included as the dealer would never get away with giving your car back in a state! Ach well at least your happy with the repair.

As for the stone chips - try getting yourself some langka www.langka.com - it really does work (with a bit of practice :I) and when i eventually get the time i'm gonna attack the collection of chips on my shiny black bonnet!:I
