    My phone comes up with a message saying something about 'this accessory may not be supported', won't charge and can't get anything through my stereo, any help would be great.

    2 different cables (genuine) depending if you have standard or visual boost

    My 4S did something like that but it was the dock connector (had problems charging in the house and syncing with PC) try a genuine Apple USB cable and see if it charges then.

    As Eddie mentiones, use your original Apple lead and only connect to the USB port to check the charging function
