    I think the inside is really different in the new facelife- much nicer now with all the black controls. Only my view mind you.

    I'm not so sure I prefer it

    The ones I saw looked weird with some bits blacked and others not. e.g. the rev counter ring was still silvery on the car I had a good look in at PV's.

    The R53 S was almost a year later being released whereas with the R56, the ONE was released after the S and Cooper.
    The R50/53 chassis was made of 3 sections- front part up to bulkhead, centre section, and rear part beyond the rear seat line. These 3 parts are welded together as the initial stage of making the car, I'm guessing the R56 is the same.

    Because the battery is in the boot of the R53, the rear chassis section is different, therefore as soon as the basic chassis was welded, it was already destined to be a Cooper S
