Quick question to other R56 S owners, and obviously to the knowledgeable ones!

Parked my car up after a quick run across town from Uni today, and noticed that the engine was so loud, it sounded like it was still on. Now I know that when you turn off the engine, the fan stays on, but today it was really REALLY loud. I lifted the bonnet, and engine bay was not hot, and the turbo was touchable as I didn't get it above 2000RPM with the snow on the ground.

Could the loud fan be the fact that it was -1 air temp? Plus the car was due a service at the start of this month.

Can't see why your cooling fan would be on if you were keeping the engine and speed down. In July, maybe, but not November when it's -227 deg C outside.

But, the R56 does have a noisy fan.

Not noticed this before. What reg is your car? My current 09 plate S switches the fan on much less than my current 09 plate S.

I do not see any reason why the fan would be noisier when the air is cold unless it was imbalanced due to ice on it or something.

I know it's not exactly the same, buy my R56 JCW has a loud fan that runs on for ages regardless of how long or short the drive is. Well I say that but there maybe a small difference but it certainly switches on a runs after each and every journey.
