I cant see there being a problem.
I have had the front suspension out of an R50 before and looked at several R53s when up on a ramp and they all seem the same.

You may need new top mounts as some of the earlier ones were different

my mini's (2003 R50) is fitted with 2005 R53 suspension. but i used the complete front and rear subframes from the R53 so i dont know if that makes a difference? but it all just bolted straight up with no problems.

I'm off all next week, if you can leave the car with me for a day i can strip out one of your struts and see if i can swap my set up into your car.
Total cost = £100 supplied and fitted, if it doesn't fit then no charge
