Stereo playing up when ignition turned on

Morning MINI gurus,
thought I would check on here to see if anyone else has had a similar problem before and hopefully some insight to a fix. When entering the car my cd multi disc starts going through a shuffle and sounds like it's looking at every disc. Then when I put the key in it does it again. The radio sometimes doesn't retain the last listened to station, i.e. it goes to local radio as default. I have had a drained battery recently with lack of use, but it was doing these strange things before that.
It's a 2008 R56 Cooper S, so it won't be going into the dealers for any fix. If I can't get to the bottom of issue myself, it's something I will live with.

I was going to say that it sounds like a battery charge issue with forgetting radio stations etc and the multi disc should only be checking discs when the cassette is loaded in. Are you sure your battery isn’t on the way out?
