Noticed a few times that when pressing the throttle with a certain mount of enthusiasm. Half way through 2nd gear traction cuts in.
Just occured to me yesterday. does the coupe/roadster use traction control to stop you going past 50 quicker than the spoiler can go up

No because the traction light flashes as though you are wheel spinning. And it's the normal traction control reaction it just kills the throttleQuote:

I know the bmw/mini TC is pretty intrusive and often steps in way before there would have been any actual wheelspin. But I cane off a roundabout in second and wanted to get past the car infront so booted it and near the top of second so somewhere between 50-60 TC light and killed the throttle only for a second then let me get on my way

I'll do some scientific testing tomorrow. Same road spoiler up, spoiler down, TC on, sort of on and off.
I dont think it's out with the realms of possibility that it's just a bit of an odd ball feature though

Well the scientific testing gave the results that you can be well past 50 with the wing down I think I hot to 57 as the highest before the wing was fully up. That was wing down traction off.
I did it on 2 roads the road it happened on a fee days ago and a main road. The road it happened on must have a slight defect that is tricking the TC.

I do not know about the above to be honest Mark.
I’ve never tried it and I’ve only ever hit the limiter in 3rd, 4th and 5th. I’m not yet brave enough to attempt to do so in 6th though.

I’ll try it out in 2nd the next time I’m out and about and the engine is fully warmed up.

I took Bess up to 140 on the autobahn and tbh it felt very stable didnt feel like the car was being pushed down at the rear though. Even though the spoiler is meant to add 80lbs of downfroce I've no idea what that is metric because I'm not from the 50s. Or called Joseph Rees moggQuote:
