Very nice, while we are on about watches my Tag just started its five second hand movement to indicate its battery is on the way out. Popped into a jewellers Braehead and they wanted £50 and a three week turnaround.
So took a look and this Martains does top of the line way beyond my watch and can do while I wait plus its a short drive to the other side of Glasgow.
The cost to replace the cell for an origianl Tag F1 is £25.00, fully inclusive of Swiss Renata cell & testing for water-resistance to 50mts.
This work can usually be completed while you wait!
Testing to 200mts and above, if required, is £35.00 and takes aprx’ 1 week.
Regards

Anyone used this Company.
Haven't used them, but I phoned for a quote to brush a Rolex bracelet and they wanted something like £80, which sounded an awful lot, in the end I bought a packet of Scotchbrite for a quid and did it myself....

Here's the "official" rating of the various levels of water resistance...
Water Resistant or 30 m Suitable for everyday use. Splash/rain resistant. Not suitable for swimming, snorkeling, water related work and fishing. Not suitable for diving.
Water Resistant 50 m Suitable for swimming, white water rafting, no snorkeling water related work, and fishing. Not suitable for diving.
Water Resistant 100 m Suitable for recreational surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing and water sports. Not suitable for diving.
Water Resistant 200 m Suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports. Not suitable for diving.
Diver's 100 m Minimum ISO standard (ISO 6425) for scuba diving at depths Not suitable for saturation diving. Diver's 100 m and 150 m watches are generally old(er) watches.
Diver's 200 m or 300 m Suitable for scuba diving at depths Not suitable for saturation diving. Typical ratings for contemporary diver's watches.
Diver's 300+ m for mixed-gas diving Suitable for saturation diving (helium enriched environment). Watches designed for mixed-gas diving will have the DIVER’S WATCH L M FOR MIXED-GAS DIVING additional marking
My favourite though is for the ladies' Cartier watches, in the literature that comes with them owners are advised to be careful not to get perfume anywhere near the watch as it can damage the internals :frown:
Handy to know.:thumbs up:
But, my EBEL say's it's "Water resistant 10ATM", which I'm asuming is 10 atmosphere's. Where does that come in the 50M to 200M scale though?
A.:D
Edit: After a good old Google search it looks like that means it's 100M water resistant.
Reminds me of an old joke....
A very successful lawyer parked his brand new Porsche Carrera GT in front of the office, ready to show it off to his colleagues. As he got out, a truck came along too close to the curb and completely tore off the driver's door.
Fortunately, a cop in a police car was close enough to see the accident and pulled up behind the Porsche, his lights flashing. But, before the cop had a chance to ask any questions, the lawyer started screaming hysterically about how his Porsche, which he had just picked up the day before, was now completely ruined and would never be the same, no matter how hard the body shop tries to make it new again.
After the lawyer finally wound down from his rant, the cop shook his head in disgust and disbelief. "I can't believe how materialistic you lawyers are," he said. "You are so focused on your possessions that you neglect the most important things in life."
"How can you say such a thing?" asked the lawyer.
The cop replied, "Don't you even realize that your left arm is missing? It got ripped off when the truck hit you!!!"
"OH, MY GOD!" screamed the lawyer, "MY ROLEX!"
cheers - slightly more accurate than my "you can dunk it" comment :-)
Perfume - I'm guessing that if you have the watch on, and continue to spray perfume on your wrists then the mist will get into the internals and over time gunk it up. Would need a LOT of perfume though!
I'm only just about brave enough to dunk my 200M divers watch in the bath, never mind to wear it when swimming. Mind you, it's so heavy and I'm such a wuss, I'd be going round in circles endlessly!
Cheers for the info, 50M sounds fine as I don’t go diving but I have been swimming with my Tag on. If I can swim with it that’s fine after it’s a diving watch.
Mods - think this thread needs to be moved to Off Topic & Banter (don't think it's really holding up as a Photography thread). :thumbs up:
Sorry Del thats my fault asking about the watch place I'm taking my Tag.
Quick anyone got a pic of a new Watch:smilewinkgrin:
Yeah, kind of agree with you there. Trouble is, any photography thread is going to drift towards discussing the subject of the photographs. So, the same could really be said about any topic raised in the Photography section.
Stuff, it, I'm taking the 5th on this one:confused:. Alan, your call.:yes nod:
A.:D
No need to apologise Stewart, this isn't a criticism - it's great that the thread has been so popular!
I guess it doesn't really matter if it's moved or not, it just seemed the thing to do so that folk could discuss all aspects of watches without feeling the need to post any photos. Although that didn't stop Stewart .
I think this section needs the banter to keep it going, but, if anyone wants it to be kept to pictures and comments only then let me know and i'll strip the banter out :thumbs up:
ignoring photos for a bit ;-)
So, one thing I've been looking at is sourcing a birth year watch. For some sentimental reason, I like the idea of owning a watch that is the same age as me.
Fortunately, I wasn't born in the 80's as there lies horrendousness, but in 1976, where you find some absolute gems.
Current favourites are Seiko Bullheads (but realistically, they're too big for my wrists), Omega (I'd love a moon watch), or something from Heuer like a Monza or Carrera.
Anyone else looked at doing this?
Never even thought about it before Euan! But now that you've mentioned it, I think I need to investigate......1979 .

Whoops, that should read 1969 .
The first commercially available quartz watch was the Seiko Quartz Astron 35SQ released on Christmas Day of my birthyear, 1969.
I guess I'd have to go with that :yes nod: :thumbs up:.
This is a description of it here.
Do we like this or is it a bit too 70s?

Hi all,
Some additional shots for you for my updated strap - had the watch a while on a rubber strap which was comfy but never felt right on the watch. So had this custom made for it, what do you reckon?

Looks great Euan, nice and chunky and suits the watch really well. Where did you get it made?
Had it done by this guy:
http://www.toshi-straps.co.uk/
Lots of options on colours, and really helpful too as to what might look good on it. From order to delivery in a week too. He just makes very chunky stuff and it's not cheap, but the Hamilton leather strap is £150! I also bought a tool that allows me to change the strap myself - it's SO easy to do!
All in all, I'm really pleased.
Good after-market straps are expensive but are normally better quality than the oem straps.
Looks really nice - great colour choice.
