Window woes
2010 Mini One: driver's door window has stopped working. I can hear a motor running in the door when I press the switch but nothing happens. More irritating is that it no longer raises the few millimetres when the door closes, creating a deafening draught over about 40mph. I've no idea what I need - is the mechanism cable or rack? Advice, please.

Have you tried taking the door card off and having a look behind it?

Above my pay grade and aged proficiency.

Sounds like the glass is no longer seated within the window mechanism. Easily enough to take the door card off and have a look and reseat. If your unable to you'll need to take it to a mechanic.

If you are not confident removing door card and checking behind, perhaps a simple check you and a friend / partner could attempt is as follows:
Whilst one of you sits in the car, with the door open, and presses the lower window switch (you say you can hear the motor running), the other (standing outside) gently tries to push the window down into the door space. Don't force it, simply push gently. You never know, it might just be sufficient to reseat the glass into the frame.
Most likely though, will be the need to visit a mechanic, or body shop, who can remove the door card using the correct tools so that they can look inside at the mechanism - which is quite complex.

Hi, There are plenty of Youtube videos on removing door cards and likely reseating the window, do some investigative work before attemp[ting or paying labour charges at a Garage :-)
