the old days
With so much said about detailing and the interest that it generates ,not to mention the amount of money that peeps spend on products ,how many people in the old days used to use a bucket (anyone they could find) a sponge and the best shampoo they could find ( most likey their mum's fairy liquid) be honest now, do you still do it or do you take better care of the motor nowadays and if so is it only because other people do it ,or tell you its better ??????

Yep I used to do that and to top it all off you would chuck the last of the bucket over the car
I don't do it now main reason is I like a clean car and enjoy doing it

The only time I ever washed a car in a similar method was after I got my licence in 1990 and got my 1st ever car (free), which was a 1973 Austin Allegro in grey and looked really bad!! but it was first car and I was excited as anything to have my own wheels, so fairy liquidish soap was good enough for it as far as I was concerned , then I eventually got my next car about a year or two later which happened to be my 1st ever mini and was a 'D' registered mini city in red and ever since then I have washed my car with decent stuff as it should be :thumbs up:

PMSL .. how true !! I never used fairy liquid but like Rob says always used to get to the end then throw the remaining water over the car ! How we live and learn.
I love a clean car and don't clean it unless I'm in the mood .. I find doing it any other time feel like a chore. I do get some looks as I'm happy to give mine a wash in the rain or the dark !
Always worth using a decent shampoo when washing your car only for the fact that it adds a lubricant to the water and saves scratching. Don't be fooled as the best shampoos don't always foam :)

I can honestly say I've always washed with car shampoo. Used to be triple wax or simoniz... By my early twenties I started using AG Stuff.
Still did the throwing the last of the water from the bucket over the car !

And a once yearly TCut....NEVER waxed! (Oh the thought of doing that now.....cringe!)

Hell yeah who can forget T Cut !

As Davy and Craig will testify, I've never used washing up liquid on mine either :-)

You're right John you've not used "anything" on yours !!
Certainly when AG started on the scene I was a massive fan more for the fact they "sponsored" a car I had at the time .. Free polish what more could a boy want ! ;)
