O I wonder how you will get on just remember you can't compare it with your X5. Then again it might surprise you it certainly has grown up alot from the previous Freelander.

Have you ever owned a LR before.??

Hi Fi!

We haven't had any LR's before.

To be honest, I was just looking at the 0-60 spec and it seems a tad slow at 11.8 seconds. That's similar to our ML, which we found quite slow.

You're right though, it won't be fair to do a direct comparison with the X5. Will look at it with an open mind. Promise.

I'll be surprised if you like it. A think a LR is either something you like or don't like it's more 4x4 than SAV as BMW like call them now.

Be interested in what you think.

on the 0-60's times the new FL2 is faster than the D3 and the RRS 2.7V6 diesel. It's got a lot of low down torque.

i love Land Rover. Always have!

I drove an old freelander for a year and loveed it. It has unbelievable offroad capabilities over its competitors, and its not to big to drive every day. You can also mistreat it as much as you like and it wont show it, inside or out.

The new one is, however, a VAST improvement on the old one.... but lets face it, that was never gona be to difficult for land rover. I really like the look inside and out and I think its set to be a very popular car! Mind you, the new CRV and X trail are just around the corner and they are entirely new concepts.

ianking

That looks like a nice motor, what a huge difference from the old Freelander which wasnt very good.
The new car looks like a mini range Rover Sport. Very nice and the colour is cool.

As requested:

We took the 2.2 Diesel SE out today for a spin round Edinburgh. The whole experience was ruined a wee bit by having an arse as a salesman. Not going back to Rosleigh, or whatever they've changed their name to.

However, the car. We've never driven the Freelander 1 so can't compare to that. But we have sat in and played around with the original Freelander. Freelander 2 is certainly a much nicer car. Far better built, and aesthetically much more pleasing to the eye. The seats were comfy and even though it wasn't top of the range, it seemed pretty feature packed. The exterior of the car is very nice. Much nicer than the Freelander 1. The front does look like a miniature version of a RR Sport.

Enjoyed the drive too. The steering was very light, the engine was actually more punchy than I thought it would, and once the turbo kicks in, it fairly gets the speed up quickly. But it would be fair to say I didn't find it as quick as I'd like. It's true that we've been spoilt with the power of the X5, and only the petrol Freelander 2 will match that power.

The auto version of the diesel is out in April next year, and the Petrol will be out in February. So we are going to leave it on our "to look at" list until the petrol comes out and have another think about it then.

I'm surprised you liked it :D

the 2.2 diesel engine has been a pleasent surprise to most of us who have driven the new FL2.

I think LR have got a winner with the new FL2

Depending on what spec you get it can be a bit costly compared to the new CRV and X Trail due out but they do not have the crudentials of the LR badge which is what I think drives the price up on them.

Another thing we had to consider is MPG we got a bit of a shock at how bad the X5 was once you put that lovely heavy caravan you've now got on the back of your X your in for a shock (or mayve not) the best we got was 16 /17 mpg tops :eek: that was in Holland towing on the flat and 14mpg on the A9 that was our Lunar @ 1480kg. You could add another 300kg with our extra bits and bobs.

We couldn't live with that the amount of towing we do. It was funny how it was worse than our V10 Treg which got about 24mpg towing. So off went the X5 the D3 was a wee bit better @ about 21mpg so off it has went. We have been told to to look for over 30mpg towing with the Freelander:D:D.

Fi, 30MPG when towing is a good figure. I'd be interested to know if you manage that.

To be honest, when we're towing with the X it only goes down from about 32mpg to 25 or 26 mpg. 17mpg is heeluva thirsty. Don't blame you for ditching it.

well Andy my boy once you put the Bessecarr on the back of the X wait for a shock.;):p

Actually if you do find your self going for a LR in the future I would go to Lakeland Landrover at Coniston. Not sure how far that would be from you but worth it for the service.

Fi, the Bessacar is only 100kg heavier than our last caravan. Not sure we'll notice that much of a difference. I didn't check the figures when we towed it back from the site in October. Will check when we take it out again in March.

If we kept to towing at 50/55mph with the X the best we would get 21 22 mpg once we took our X over that then the mpg drop to what I quoted with many miles of our touring on the motorways or auto bahns just wisnae good enough.

MInd you years years years ago we had a V8 Discovery and got 8mpg towing with that:eek::eek:

e'mm well should be ok as long as it's not the deep stuff. A good few guys over on X5world fit 17'2 or 18'2 for the winter and in Canda where it really snows they have snows chains.

I do indeed, thanks for your help on that! He loves it! I'll be up in Aberdeen over Christmas so it'll be my first time driving it then, can't wait.

Fi, where is the half day off road experience? Is the official Land Rover place or is it a dealer one? I drove a local one to me in a Disco and loved it, which was also used by VW for demo runs.
