He's supposed to be really good.
I've seen him in a couple of films Munich and Layer Cake and I'm a fan. I reckon he'll be great in the darker more realistic bond. To be honest I loved the first few Brosnan bond movies but the last was pure pish. Invisible cars my arse!

I'm a massive Bond fan and i reckon Craig looks the part! Just take a while to get used to someone other than Brosnan! Craig was ace in Layer Cake, and not to bad in Munich either so his acting will certianly be up to scratch!
As for the plot, looks good from the trailers, far more relistic than Die Another Day - not a bad film, just a bit over the top!!
Going to see it on Saturday night....can't wait!!:D

I liked him in Archangel that was on the TV a couple of years ago.
My Bond order of preference is:-
Connery
Lazenby
Brosnan

Yes,
Taken from bond website: -
he was a a Leinz Cossak, he watched as Stalin's execution squads murdered his parents. He blamed the British for this, since they turned the Cossaks, who fought the Russians with the Nazis, over to the Russians after World War II.
Coltrane played Valentin Zukovsky the other mafia guy, he was ex-KGB.

From what I've heard it's a good film. It kind of depends on your take on what you want from Bond. I want the gadgets, cars, girls and the action. I also like the cheese factor - and for that Goldeneye rules as the best combination of it all. However, there is a movement to make Bond darker and more real - I'm not so sure that it's good for the life of the films to make them darker as sometimes you just don't want that.
Anyway, I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it. What would make my year is if the associated PS2 game is anywhere near as good as Goldeneye on the N64 - as a new Bond film was coming out I dug my old N64 out and have been re-addicted to it. Best game ever!

And Valentin Zukovsky (Robbie Coltrane) was the best baddy, def the funniest anyway in Goldeneye and The World Is Not Enough

Well, Valentin was a great character, but best baddie? Not so sure. He had some of the best lines in Goldeneye and I loved him in The World Is not Enough, but not menacing enough.
It has to be Jaws for me. Oddjob was great until Austin Powers - everytime I see Oddjob throwing the hat I get Austin in my head - "Who thows a shoe?" Genius line.

Have to agree.:approve::approve: To be honest when Daniel Craig was announced as Bond and the whole "Launch" was a PR fiasco; One of many of the worlds press: "So Daniel, what do you think you can bring to the role of Bond". Craig: (Mumbles)"Dunno really. Pierce Brosnan was a really good Bond - hard to beat"
WTF?!?!
But the trailers and general opinions & reviews recently have given me much new hope, now we can't wait to see it.

So far, I've seen the first 5 mins and the last 15 mins and a couple of minutes dotted here and there - one of the drawbacks of our job.
The few action scenes I've seen do look very well shot/choreographed.
Reserving judgement until we've seen the whole film, but it does seem to end about 3 times. But then, I'm watching it out of context. Presumably, there's loose ends that need tying off.:clown:

Best Villian - Sophie Marceau
Best Bond - Brosnan
Best Bond Girl - Teri Hatcher
Best Bond Car - Aston Martin V12 Vanquish that was really a 4-wheel drive V8 must have cost a fortune to re-engineer all those Vanquishes to 4-wheel drive, wonder why Aston Martin (ford) didn't put it into production.

I saw the film at the weekend, loved it.
Craig is a brilliant choice, he has a real menance which was similar to the very early Connery films. He has the potential to be a better bond than Sean
The film has a more realistic feel to it, no gadgets and no invisible cars. I'm glad to see the back off the stupid jokes, this film is far more cerebral and all the better for it. Might not be everyones cup o' tea though.
Oh, Eva Green - what a goddess

It's making so much cash, and I think it would make a good holiday film so I would imagine it will still be on, but I'm sure our cinema expert will be along shortly to help :)
As for the last Bond film with the invisible car, you'd think someone would have stopped them and said - erm, this is a bit rubbish isn't it?

We went to see the film on Saturday night and it was good!
I liked it a lot, but the boys thought it wasn't BOND enough! Still, I know what they mean .... could have almost been any action film you were watching - not necessarily a BOND one!!! Still, we all enjoyed it, which I guess is the main thing!
Daniel Craig was alright too - I was a fan of Pierce, but I think Daniel will be OK as BOND....

Well I went to see it last weekend thought it was great. It is a lot grittier than recent bonds. Fight sequences are more realistic too as he always seems to be cut up with plasters on etc. Agree it could do with being 20mins shorter but small price to pay - the parcour chase was just class though. :D

I agree, its a decent film, but it aint a Bond.
Just felt there was something missing, a sparkle of charisma from DC would have been good, although he acted the part well.
The start was good, but the ending cliched. And did I see a very brief Richard Branson cameo at Miami Airport?
The Dogfather
29th November 2006, 12:14 AM
Yes, I saw Branson as well :D
I think the idea behind this film is he isn't the finished Bond yet, but he becomes the Bond we know by the end of the film.
duncan
29th November 2006, 12:26 AM
That could have been the plan, right enough, but it was just a Generic Action Movie.
If they were wanting to take back the mantle back from The Bourne Identity/Supremicy, then IMHO, they failed this time.
It'll be interesting to see what the next one turns out like.

Finally got round to watching it today.
Enjoyed it. Not the best Bond ever, but a good action film all the same. That running sequence near the beginning was ace.
Did miss the gadgets/Q/sexual innuendo's/etc., etc. Basically all the stuff that differentiates Bond from all the other action pics.
As for Craig as Bond. He pulls off the action stuff very well. But he doesn't have the charm of Brosnan. IMHO.
