PC help...please...ANYBODY???

Ok. My internet explorer is doing my head in. Unless I put http// before I type in the web address like www.newminiscotland.co.uk, instead of putting in http// for me it puts in http://ehttp.cc/? so the address reads http://ehttp.cc/?www.newminiscotland.co.uk. Because of the http://ehttp.cc/? I get a message saying "This site could not be found" and am shown a friggin advert site! It's doing my head in. Can anyone help? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease????

run a spy ware program called adware, its a free download, then empty your temp files. Set your homepage to google, or any other 'simple' site and then try again.

BOB - the easiest way to clear your cookies and temp files is to click on the Tools menu above (in IE) then select Internet Options, then click delete cookies and delete files - this will clear themn for you.

However once you've cleared your cookies you will have to log on to some websites like here and MINI2 again as this is where your login is saved!

Actually...the mars bars may be on hold for a bit...I have no idea which of these 53 files it found to delete. Any advice?

Big Col - how did you do it? if you are clearing your temp files and cookies from the window in IE then they all can be deleted. If you are going through windows explorer then make sure you are not in any other folder than the one called "temporary Internet files" which will be found inside the local settings folder.

If i was you i'd stick to doing it from IE via the Tools menu - this way oot only deletes the junk files you don't need.

Or you can run a disk cleanup from control panel and this will delete all the junk from other folders too!;)

i just delete the files in ad-aware. most of them are prob spyware cookies, and others perhaps registry inputs.

If you have kazza or other p2p sharing software then they might not work after deleting regestry keys.

I done it through adware Wul. In Adware there were 53 files including some in Documents and Settings. Some are even folders. Can all of these be deleted?

have a look at what they are...

chances are if ad-aware picked them up then best to delete them mate... i use ad-aware all the time and jus set it to delete everything it finds and no problems..

it wont go about deleting documents or stuff... jus spyware and cookies and stuff that screws around with ur computer lol

Yup.. they're right... whatever AdAware finds... delete it!
Unless you happen to be running Kazaa Lite which uses a couple of these files to stop the pop ups and stuff... And if you know what I'm talking about, do a Google search for AdAware / Kazaa lite / Files and you should be able to find the ones to "not delete"... :D

Think the latest Ad-aware knows the dummy files that kazza lite uses and leaves them, well, mine works fine anyway.

Think its the spyware Kazaa version it mucks up

Col, there is a fair chance you have a virus lurking around your PC as well.
Do you have a virus checker installed and are the definitions up to date???

When you first run IE does your normal home page load up or does it go directly to that site you mention.

If you are running XP then you could use system restore to a time before the problems began and that will work :)

The virus checker is installed and is up to date (I think).

With the homepage it does both. Sometimes it goes straight to the page mentioned by changing my home address. Once it is changed back it goes to my home page for a while before changing it again. This is driving me daft. I've got XP so I'll try a system restore (IF I can work out how to do it) ;)

Here's another thought... if you do maybe have a virus, do a google search for "Stinger" and choose the first link that comes up and downlooad the stinger.exe form the NAI.com web site, then run it on your PC... it's an active virus checker, and it kills them sometimes better than some anti-virus programs... It's a free program from the Network Associates web site :D

I had a problem similar to this a few months back Col. I downloaded a program called Spybot, ran it, deleted all the mince (technical term) and prob was resolved. Spybot is freeware, you should be able to find it via Google :cool:

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! God bless all of your wee cotton socks! Ran spybot as advised by Willie from the link given by Alan, ran it and got rif of the wee buggar!!! It was a common redirection type thing that corrupts the file that should send you to msn if you get the sie addy wrong! My PC is now sorted! Lang may yer induction kits sook and yer superchargers whine! If I make the Feb run I'm gonna buy you all those Mars bars!
