i was driving to work this morning and noticed a few puffs of what i can only describe as steam coming from the grill is this common,it happens when i wash the car aswell.

Could just be drips of water from the front grill or pollen vents hitting the hot engine - i'd be worried if it was a constant jet of steam - otherwise it should be fine.

keep an eye on your coolant bottle just on the offchance as there have been a few issues with the coolant bottles splitting though mainly on the cooper s' (stoney could probably vouch for that)

I get steam drifting out of the bonnet scoop of my motor quite a lot when it's raining.

Of course not because you should never wash your car when it's warm as it can cause the washing fluid to dry out too quick leaving hard deposits on your paint! DUUH!! :p
