This Cooper S looks a tad dull (http://www.mini2.com/galleries/data/500/2nd_Gen.jpg)
Now I don't want Elfman Etc., jumping on me with "told you so's..." but without bonnet stripes, and lacking the pollen vents at the rear of the bonnet, this car does look a bit dull.:(
Nice colour though. And I still like the grille with the chrome surround etc.

Totally agree - they need to revert back to the previous design and geometry but with the new engines and interior

Bonnet is definitely lacking details. Cheaper to make though...

I like it without those silly pieces of plastic that just got in the way when trying to wash it.
But...how do they get the air in for the interior fan?

Andy - I reckon the look of the new car is very “colour-specific” the attached pic actually doesn't look too bad, whereas some of the previous posted 'S' pics are just awful. I haven't seen a picture from this angle before, so I hadn't noticed the lack of Scuttle Vents... Hmmm a bit bland, as the current ones add a nice highlight - if you have chrome ones. New bonnet is probably part of the “save a pedestrian” design. I'd like to see the car with chrome grilles rather than the black plastic - which I've never been a fan of. How ironic that having seen it in different colours, I'm not QUITE so 'anti', but you're having doubts.... Ain't life funny!
Overall, I still prefer the current, less 'bulbous' car. I'm not sure if I'd enjoy the more 'refined' version either - I thought my 'S' was TOO REFINED when I bought it back in 2003 - hence the exhaust etc. The jury's still out methinks - but there's a middle ground out there somewhere!

Mark, generally I love the look of the new Mini, even with the raised bonnet profile, which seems to be pi$$ing Elfman off big time. It was just the plain-ness of the bonnet on this particular car which didn't blow my skirt up. But with some form of bonnet stripe or other bonnet graphic, it would liven it up.:D

“I just SOooooooo knew you'd end up saying that.” Oh did ye now, Scottiecoop? I'm not eating my hat yet! I merely think the blue car looks better in Andy's photo compared to the others I've seen.
Previous photos make it look bloated and out of proportion, so it's hardly surprising I didn't like it. I'm just being honest. I'm open to alter my opinions if and when I get more information, so that's what I'm doing. In the other thread (Angus's 'Back to Back'), I mentioned I thought the (same colour) ONE looked loads better.
I still think the current car is more 'cohesive' from a design standpoint and I'm not convinced (as I said in the last thread and elsewhere) that because something is more 'refined' it's necessarily better. I still wouldn't trade my car for one based on what I've seen and heard. I reckon mine's more fun, looks and sounds better and I'll bet it's a more involving experience to hustle down a B road. Maybe in a couple of years when there's a 250BHP Works version, I'll think about it.

Right 'Mystic Scottie', what are the winning Lottery Numbers for tomorrow then? Clever Trousers.

The R65 definitely looks better from some angles and in some colours than others, whereas the current one looks pretty fine from anywhere. The Red one with the bigger alloys isn't too bad. Not buying one though. Still waiting for those Lottery Numbers Scottiecoop! See Y'all on Sunday.

Looking again at that pic, I defo prefer the look of the new Cooper. The chrome surrounding the black grill just makes it look like a big hole in that pic.

First time I've seen it with the chrome grille, as I thought, it does looks better. Is the 'S' available with an exterior Chrome Pack? So far, the ONE and COOPER beat the 'S' for looks........

Take away the cheap nasty plastic grille and those awful wing mirror covers and it's alright....
Still not a fan of Metallic cars with non-metallic roof and stripes tho..
any plans for maybe more silver roofs like the Park Lane?
