is there any difference between a works cooper s and a cooper s that has had a tuning package added to make it up to the 210 bhp. Is there any difference in engine characteristics between the 2 or are they pretty much the same

Providing the tuning package is the JCW one, then there won't shouldn't be any difference.
One may have the 200 BHP conversion and another may have the 210 BHP if old enough :p ask Angus ;)
Also, nowadays the suspension and brakes can be added as part of the "package" and all can be fitted at teh factory now as opposed to a dealer only fit :)

Performance may be similar but the warranty will not!

Is it a new car ..!! both cars will be exactly the same ,unless one has the "full works", sus/breaks/seats etc if its older as Alan said one will be 200 bhp and the newer being 210 bhp , Tony ..(Minimad) has the JCW 225 conversion . If warranty is an issue I would go JCW ,if not and you look around at some of the specialist tunning packages ,you can get one hell of a car from the likes of Lohen ,BBR, GT Tunning which can take you to about 250 260 bhp ...have a look at the various websites and see what you can get for the same ££ or LESS.

Only you can decide if the BMW warranty is very important to you :approve:
I tuned my previous S with aftermarket tuners, never had a problem, but, it's your choice

In my case as it was a new car I decided to go with the JCW extras, and prepaired to pay for them as well . ...however, if I was thinking about putting extras on ...say a CS or Cooper that was older ,I would be very tempted to go the other way and get some specialist tuner equipment added ,exhaust , induction , breaks etc and save some money for goods just as good if not better in some ways ... In my opinion you do pay for having a JCW badge on the back of your car ,just like having a shirt with a guy on a horse whacking a wee ball about ...is it any better than the other ??? ...the other does cost less !!!!!!. As I have said the only reason Ive kept it all JCW is that I want to have a genuine all JCW car before the GP and R56 arrived ...
