TT - will hold it value better since they stop making that shape ;)

New Golf GTi definitely, driven one and the new R32, and still would get a GTi if i had to pick from the two.

And don't you mean, the TT will drop in value since they stopped making that shape?! Just like what happens when a new shape is released, the only benefit you will have is that you will benefit from a large price drop due to the new shape being released.

The R32 is a great car, but very very thirsty. But the 4 wheel drive system on them is brilliant. As long as you can add leather then I'd go for the the GTi. however if I was you and you seem to be into VW/Audi, why not look at an S3 or S4, or push the boat out and go for the RS4

Would love the RS4 but it's well out of my price range (the new one anyway). I like the S3 but i've not seen any for sale that don't have shed loads of miles on them.

I'm very much swaying towards the 3.2 A3 at the mo. Surprizingly decent MPG too!

if it MPG and speed you want ....get the astra Diesel 1.9 .. very quick

sleepy... what have you test driven? If anything... go and try out a GTI :p... I'm not too keen on the A3, but uninvolved as are all Audi's really but again, get a shot in one.

The Dogfather

A3 suspension is overly harsh on the sports models but I reckon the A3 is still top of the pile. One thing worth mentioning is that both Audi and VW have terrible reliability according to www.warrantydirect.co.uk although A3 non quattro isn't too bad.

With any 3.2V6 you'll struggle to get anything better than 24mpg. The 2.0TFSI is supposed to be much better.

Have you thought about a Mazda 6MPS? Or how about an Octavia VRS/Leon cheaper than a Golf?

I've driven both the GTi (with and without DSG) and the A3 2.0 FSI T Quattro this last weekend.

GTI was cracking to drive, great noise, but the interior (dash) did nothing for me. The seats were great, really comfy. DGS I could take or leave, for what it is it's very good.

A3 was superb though. So fast, and was able to put the power down (the traction control kept kicking in on the GTi - it has been raining that morning but was otherwise dry) and the dealer was much nicer. Also had very strong residuals.

The steering feel in the Audi was hard to guage as the drive wasn't as long (and nothing on fast roads) but I didn't find it numb.

The SEAT - while it's the same engine and chassis, the interior is just not near the same standard as the Audi or the VW. Plus the residuals are not exactly brilliant, but then you've saved 4K over the proce of the GTi.

The guys at VW all said the same thing - R32 is good, but the GTi is better. Lighter, better handling, less thirsty.

mini is to small and all the problems I had with mine has put me off slightly. I know the post 04 minis are much better.

However, in all honesty, the biggest thing is, i just want a change...

I'm thinknig A3 2.0t

I can recommend Mk4 R32, I had a real hoot with my one last winter.
I have a friend who had a A3 3.2 V6 who rated it very highly, very comfortable whenever I was in it too. Very smooth but I prefered the R32 looks wise.
He recently changed it for an M3, with the cheapness of them these days have you thought about one of them?

Garage in Dundee has an Orange S3 on a 52 or 53 plate I think going for £16995. If I had the money then I would be seriously tempted, I've never seen one in that colour before and it looks amazing. :D:p

The new TTs look brilliant, just waiting for my lottery numbers to come up :D

One of our neighbours had a ltd ed. TT and worked out he was losing £700 a month on it, eek, almost as much as I lost on the Evo!!:disapprove: I've even contemplated a Fo<cough>cus ST or I actually quite like an 888, done by that voxhill lot!:I:I We looked at Audi's but decided maybe in a few years when I'm ready for my pipe and slippers!! Which would mean a new model. I've sat in one when I was waiting for the dealer to get the keys for the A3 I was test driving, it was really nice inside. If I didn't need the space, I'd have been very tempted (and also if I had the money!)

The Thurlby Motors 888 Astra Sports Hatch is a magic car. 200 bhp in a 1.9 diesel? BTCC wheels and bespoke suspension and brakes. You should snap one up if you can get one. I've heard that you can get over 40 mpg driving normally and if you boot it it drops to the same consumption of a VXR. Still, it must be a pretty good map if it gets you 200 bhp and can still be economical if you want it to.

Only 100 made as well apparently. I'll have one in white please.

The best thing is that it only costs a few hundred quid more than the standard SRI !
