Anyone know a free utility to convert mp3 to a midi file?

My mate is trying to convert it to put it onto his phone.

Nope. I take it his phone is that old it cant take mp3 files then :clown::p:):clown:

The simple answer is it can't really be done. All the applications that claim to be able to do this are pretty ineffective.

Or you could use software like polderbit to record the track!
