I pressume the Single point injection just squirts one blast of petrol in the cyliner at a time and the multi point system would squirt more than one. I could be wrong though.

Anyway what years were these systems run on the cars. I pressume multi point was later than single point and lastly will the air filter box from an Spi be the same as that from an Mpi. :)

Your On teh Right Lines with Spi and Mpi........

years Wise.

The Spi can be found on Some of the K plate Mini More L,M,N, some still have carbs though.. then P,R,S,T,V,W,X,Y were Multipoint...

Tehre is No Set Correct Way of telling Apart From opening the Bonnet.

Oh and the Airbox is different From a SPi to a MPI... MPI is flatter. SPi Is more Round. MPI Is Oval..

Right I'll go get my Trainspotter Jacket back on..

I take it you either Have an Older Mini Or are looking to Buy.. If you need any more info PM Me and I'll do my best to Find you a decent mini or assist..

Cheers.

I have an old H plate which is for sale but I have just bought a 2000 W sports pack cooper. I pressume this is multi point. It certainly goes like sh+t of a shovel anyway.
It currently has a dirty clogged up K+N cone in it which im not that keen on. The prevoius owner has lost the original filter box.
I just bought an air filter box on e-bay but it might be the wrong one. It says MPi in the title and came from a 2000 model but in the description it says Spi. However if its from a 2000 its going to have to be Mpi then???

Argh I see Might Know someone Who Might be interested in your H plate if you can E-Mail me Details.

Your W Reg Is deafo MPi... I have a Spare MPi Filer House that I have Off One Of My Previous Minis. Yours If you want it......
I think It will be the Right One But if your unsure Send me a Pic and I can tell the difference.

Fair Few Differences on the Later Minis. Is yours a Sportspack? I have seen some Newer ones that have More tin worm than the Old ones.

Just be aware that the Differential isn't the best on them and they can go within 30,000 Miles....... Not the Nicest job the Weekend before you go On a Mini adventure.............( Still bitter about that).........

I have been over the car very thorough before i bought it. Very slight rust on one A panel and on the centre of the scuttle below the seal. Getting a quote for repair this week hopefully.
It is a sportspack. Its the funny matt green colour with the green leather. I havnt seen many that colour so went for it. It says rover mini Cooper Sport on the V5 but im no sure if it is a special edition or anything.

If you look in the for sale section over the past 2 or 3 pages a listing has been made for my car. IOt has since had drive shaft oil seals and new discs + pads. Price can come down a wee bit but no too much as spent a fortune on it.

It's not one of These (http://www.classiccarspecialist.co.uk/N730CVU.htm) that's been bu66ered about with is it??:eek::eek:
...Except they didn't make em in Sportspack version..

Correct me if I'm wrong peeps (Rob/ Bri/ Duncan ) but all the MPi Mini's had the Airbag in the steering wheel, the SPi's didn't...
You can lower the steering column pre Airbag, but not after..

If yours is one of these, it'll be SPi, someone may have put Sportspack arches and wheels on it..

no its not one of them but the colour is almost the same. It has sport on the V5 and in the handbook it says that it is a cooper sportspack. Its fully original just as the owner collected it 6 years ago. Even has the mini radio cass still in it.

yes all mpis had airbags/roof aerials and radiators at the front so are easy to spot.

hi
yes its an MPI then.
Is there much tunning that can be done to these or is it a case of leave alone.

Course tehre is Tunning that can be done.
Superchips Or That sort of laptop Tweaks.

Just ask Bonnie scotland. Sure you have seen that his is away for a wee Tweak... But there are plenty of things that can be done.
Depends How much you want to spend and what your after Flat out speed or Comfort and reliability.

to be a right anorak the difference between spi and mpi are spi has just one injector in the throttle body and mpi has two injectors mounted on the inlet manifold. single point ran from 1991 to to august 1997 when the mpi took over till probuction finished.

And the air box on my spi is a big oval shaped thing the best way to tell is spi= side mounted rad mpi front mounted rad and no distributor it is a coil pack on the side of the engine.

plus Aug 97 onwards had airbags and door bars
