Leak in Boot

Hey everyone, ive got a cooper 52 plate, i've noticed that there is water getting in the boot, it dosn't appear to be a seal, its coming from the back part, not at the door but the other end, has anyone had any similar problems or knows if this is a common problem.:(:(

I think Gill had a similar problem, people have had leaks around the rear brake light which can run through the roof and from around the aerial.

Yip , as Martin said ...look at the High level break light , and is easy to get at from the open rear door ...two screws hold it in place , remove it and have a look at the seal around it for squash marks etc .The other thing to look for is the rear window wiper or window seal!!!

You'll be able to tell if the water in the boot is due to a seal as you will hear barking and clapping and when you open the boot you will see a large marine mammal with a ball balanced on it's nose!;):I

Hey everyone, thanks for the advice, weirdly enough when ive checked the leak its as if its coming up the way, it sounds weird i know but the carpet cover in the boot seems dry, i lined soft blue toilet paper underneath the carpet bit and left it for a couple of days, went out today and its drenched all along the underneath of it, but the top seems dry! I'll check the light out tonight tho and i did read about the window seals, it seems imposssible to tell where its coming from without actually sitting in my boot when its raining! It may come to that if this keeps up!

ok check the seals around the other rear lights then - especially if you have fitted after market ones. I put some lexus style lights on mine for a while and the seals were cr*p, but the water ran down and under the carpet so you didnt really feel it wet on top. Open the little cubby holes in the sides of the boot and run your hands in there and see if there is any moisture.

lined soft blue toilet paper that will do the trick then , I only used white :p:(

the water will be running down the side then and under the carpet ...take the carpet out and leave something absorbent at the sides , you then will see where its wet and might be lucky and be able to trace the water ( again look in the light cubby hole ) and open the "plastic doors" at the sides ,check there also .

Yup, it's defo your high brake light - mines was the same!

Hi martin, i did a check last night, the back lights are dry, didnt take off the back brake light, going to get a friend to do that on monday, he used have old beetles so apparently has had a lot of experience with leaks! Ive got the whole boot lined with towels am just praying it dosnt rain over the weekend! :I:I
