I would book the day off now as this happened earlier this year, we only go the date confirmed in January for the tour in April...;):approve:

Basically they haven't started taking bookings yet for next year, but because Ulrika got to see guys in kilts, a NewMiniScotland Limited Edition Oxford Run T-Shirt and Sticker, we get special treatment... :I

Right.....

before anyone gets their knickers in a knot about who is getting to go and who isn't, I have a plan. ;)

Some people have already muted that they will probably make it a 2 day stay down in Oxford. As we are 8 months away from the date BMW will not confirm anything, so be rest assured I WILL try to get everyone there....:approve::approve:

As for a convoy.... keeping 13 cars in convoy down the M6 was hard enough ;):D:approve:

:D Great work Craig :D
As for the convoy don't worry about keeping us all together as it's just a straight run down the motorway. As long as we know where the stops are we will all regroup at them.

it's OK duncan, this is not the real run thread... this was just to get interest. It will be deleted nearer the time and 2 threads will be started. A banter thread and a run thread so that it is much easier to find out the information that matters rather than trawl through pages of nonsense.. ;)

nope, Sheilz stuck her car into her local garage to get her tyres checked etc for the long run and when they put the wheels back on, they forgot to tighten the nuts and by the time she got to Oxford, one of the back wheels nearly came off...:blackeye::D after some tightening (and some assistance from Mini Assistance) it got sorted :approve:

she was none to pleased.... imagine that coming off on the M6 at motorway speeds  doesn't bear thinking about.. :disapprove:

OK,

before this goes anywhere, here is the plan that is already in motion. I have thought about this a lot, 'cos I remember what it was like to miss the first trip.. :disapprove:

I have spoken to Plant Oxford and they only do 1 evening tour (as it takes approx 2 and half hours).

Ulrika (who is in charge of the tours etc at Oxford) has spoken to me and says that if we want to take more people, just to let her know. What I am proposing to do is have a Sat Morn tour (for all the reserves), however I need to double check that this is possible nearer the time as they cannot confirm the tours till about 3 - 4 months before.

SO......... I am doing all is possible to get everyone that wants to go, experience Plant Oxford :approve:

If there are going to be 2 tours, then there will be 2 convoys. If this happens I would need a couple of volunteers to look after the 2nd convoy as they would be able to travel down at a more "sensible" hour on the fri.

More info as I have it.. :D

Alan,

it's as confirmed as it gets with BMW until about 3 months before the tour. They only give you 100% guarantee then :approve: As for the hotel, they do not do a block discount, believe me I tried VERY hard to get a discount.

We will all fit in, my advice would be for people to book asap as you can cancel right up until 1pm of the day you are arriving.

Paul, it's completely up to your own personal choice (and budget)

a lot of people earlier this year went straight back up the road on the saturday, crombers went to see his sister and had a wee holiday, Neil and Lorna went from there for a holiday, some other people stayed another night. A few of us visited the Gaydon Motor Museum, some visited Minisport on the way back up the road.

Basically what I'm saying is there are no definate plans for the return home, it's kinda like, speak to other people and maybe get a group of you that wants to do the same thing.. :D

or just go home on your own like Jason and Lesley ;):D

Smitty when you book the Premier Travel Inn, they secure the booking on a credit card, but don't charge you anything until you actually check in. You have until something like 1pm on the day of arrival to cancel. Providing you cancel before that time, you won't be charged a penny. Hope this helps.

yes you are down as reserves, but to be honest, EVERYBODY who is on the list is down a provisional. ;)

Only once Plant Oxford GUARANTEE that the tours are going ahead, (and it's highly unlikely) will everyone be confirmed. <and I couldn't be bothered to change the post from reserves to 2nd tour...;):approve:)

Just in case anyone else was a little confused about this, I gave Craig a call. He's away from a PC now for the evening so he asked me to clarify the terminology in the above...

He didn't mean to say the tours are highly unlikely to go ahead, which is how I read it and near sh@t myself:eek:. He meant that it was highly likely the tours WILL go ahead. BUT, BMW being BMW, they will NOT give an absolute confirmation in writing that that date is OK until the new year.

Hope this helps anyone else who have started heart palpitations at the very thought of an Oxford tour being "highly unlikely".

Anyone fancy a tour of the BMW Factory to see the new model being built ? ?:D:D

I have spoken with the lovely Ulrika ka ka ka ka at BMW Oxford (who arranges the tours) and have arranged another date for a tour. As with all the changes currently going on in the factory, she can't confirm it for absolute definate, but she does not see it being a problem.

The date I have selected (to ensure I keep my plums and my marriage;)) is Friday 13th April (anyone superstitious ?) :D

The format will be the same, leave early on Friday morning from various locations for a convoy down to Oxford, Bite to eat, tour at approx 18:00hrs, then back to the bar for a chat. On the Sat, people can suit themselves... (some came straight back up the road, some went on holiday, some went to a car museum on the way home... all up to yourselves).

All i want is notes of interest from those that want to go. There will be a cap on numbers of 30. Please remember that under 14's are not allowed on the tour.

I will post up more info as I get it, so if your interested, stick your name down... :approve::approve: It may be a popular run, so I will have reserves as people always drop out due to work/commitments that are unforeseen. ;)

For those that want a wee bit more info - see last year's thread... http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/snitzforums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5667

I have got some FANTASTIC news.. :approve::approve::approve::approve::approve::appr ove::approve::approve:

Urlike has email'd me this afternoon to confirm the tour dates and times.

We have a tour confirmed for the evening of Friday 13th April (Approx 19:00hrs) and also a tour confirmed for the morning Saturday 14th April (Approx 09:00hrs). She has also confirmed that we can have 33 people on each tour!!!, that means EVERYONE ON THE LIST INCLUDING RESERVES CAN GO!!! :approve::approve:

To stop any confusion, what I propose to do is have 2 convoys. The first convoy will be the same as last year. We will leave early on Friday morning (7am from hamilton from memory) and make our way down.

The Sat tour will leave (I would suggest @ 09:00hrs) on the friday from the same locations... This means that I need someone from the second tour to take charge of it and look after it for the run down.

I am not prepared to have 40ish cars in convoy down the M6 as this will only draw attention to ourselves with the boys in blue and this is not a good thing. 2 convoys are much easier to handle and should allow everyone (including myself!) to enjoy the run down..

Ulrike would also like to have some info/pics from the journey for their associate magazine...:approve::approve:

Toni, (Minimad)

if you want to go on the Friday tour, just see if you can get someone to swap with you. We are stuck with the numbers we have... sorry.;)

I wouldn't be running to get to Minisport, their service is PANTS, but if you really want to go there on the Sat, i'm not going to stop you..:D

I have no problem with you going on friday as long as you get a couple of people to swap to the sat morn tour.:D

minisports only lower by 20mm and lohens go 30mm and perosnaly i would rather pay the extra and have lohen or GTT do mine as lohen stuff is pretty much all done by race techs who work on club sport 911's ferrairs and classic f1 cars

No.

11th March 2007, 08:42 PM
30 MINI's on the M6 would be chaos. There was 17 MINI's last year and because of the steady 70 MPH, and a safe gap between, it was difficult enough keeping track of everyone.

Craig would have to inform every police force all the way down and if he didn't, and any kind of incident occurred, they would not be happy bunnies. Still far better to keep two convoy's. IMHO, of course.:approve:

AndyP & Lenore

When we first started organising runs this was the advice I got from Calum (MMM) and when I did phone them the week before to let them know we were doing a run I was told off and told that I "Should have given them at least a months notice in writing to the Inspector of Traffic Division". They always reply with "We can't say yes, we can't say no, but you are obliged to let us know of an organised event and we appreciate you letting us know".

Since then, every run I've organised with more than 15 or so cars, I've written/emailed the police.

Craig
12th March 2007, 06:21 PM
Your right Andy. If we were to keep to the letter of the law, ANY organised event should be notified to the police when using the public roads (as per our Road Policing Unit). I have not contacted all the forces we are going through as we are keeping the numbers down a fair bit and we will all be driving sensibly.. ;):D
