View Full Version : Angus & Tayside Manky Thrash - Sun 5th November

8th August 2006, 06:11 AM
Been a while since i organised a wee run, so many others are organising nowadays ;) it's hard to find a space and a date that suits my rota :I so, sorry but it's bonfire night which may not suit some and maybe the location may put some off too
No limit on cars and no washing beforehand ;) non mini's welcome :p
No Banter Allowed :I
Update 10th September
Roo's have agreed to reserve tables for 40 people so it is very important if you decide not to attend to let me know as soon as possible.
You can see the menu here (http://www.roosleap.com/)
Please make your selection from the menu and this will help speed things up on the day, post back your choice :p
Update
Start point is the Stracathro Services just off the A90
The run will start at 09.30, eating at 12.00, say 1hr to feed everyone, then another hours drive will have us finishing at 2pm :)
Lunch will be at Roo's leap in Montrose :p numbers will be required and confirmed
The run will not be excessively long due to the time of year to allow long distance travellers to get home early :)
The run will finish at the Brechin Castle Centre (http://www.brechincastlecentre.co.uk/) providing easy access to the A90 north and south
One thing regarding the food, once I confirm the food with Roo's on the 4th November I won't have a chance to cancel the food, so, anyone who does not cancel before the 4th November will have to pay for their food, sorry for any hassle :p
Update 25th October
Run notes are now available, i can either e-mail them to you or if some kind person can host them....:approve:

All names are included for lunch, i just need to know if there are extras, when the likes of andyP&lenore post it gets tricky :p the user name has 2 names, but, it only is for one person, hence the + after the name.

Update 13th August
Hmm, that's 32 potentials on the run so far, which, is no problem, but, Roo's on Sunday for that amount of people may be a problem, when i return to the UK i'll contact them, failing that i'll have to think of somethng else.
I don't want to limit the run numbers, but....taking into account late call offs etc i may call for a non refundable deposit, shouldn't be a problem if everyone is keen to go ;)

Main page updated to show the menu for Roo's, the portions are very generous and only the really hungry should select starters as well ;) I will update this page with everyone's choice and will provide the list on the day.

Is there a petrol station with decent petrol at the services? (ie. shell/bp?) (Tried looking on the net first)I always have to travel a fair distance when attending runs, used to attend around 4 a year on MINI2 ;) There hasn't been a run up here for a while, so decided i would have to organise one to save on the travelling.
The Stracathro Service have a Shell station, so advisable to fill up there.
The run total will not be any more than 100 miles

Sorry but we are not going to be able to make this nowNo worries Jim, shame you can't make it, but, a timely reminder for the rest of us ;)
Thanks to all the members for adding their names and food requests, in order to speed up the food stop i need everyone to advise their requirements, but, more importanatly, if i am not advised by approx 10.30 on the 4th November before i confirm the booking that you can't make it, i'm afraid i'll have to ask that you pay for the food you ordered as it will be cooked and i will have to pay for it :p
I appreciate unforseen circumstances can occur, but, hopefully this way we can reduce the amount of organising for me on the run day.
Now, can some kind soul allow me to post the pace run notes on their web space :p

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the first complaint i've received from anyone whilst i'm not against receiving critisism or advice, i do feel that waiting for over a month to post up on the site for all to see without even mentioning to me on the day of the run, or privately first to express your views. as you have done as innappropriate.
I will however answer your points as best i can

Would you honestly drive your car around a track, or is this just to emphasise your point.
Personally, i do see the 'fun' in tearing around secondary roads, but, unlike you, i can enjoy it, though i wouldn't use the expression, excessive speed.

Because of the excessive speed on the manky thrash, on the last few miles i missed a turn, trying to keep up with the mini in front, and i was about half way in the group
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You were in fact 3rd from last as was explained to me, behind you were the Weefossy's and a Subaru.
You did call me twice, me Julie and i both gave you further directions to help you get back on track, i told you to follow the instructions and that we would meet up at the finish point.
From this point on you must have driven at excessive speed under your own heavy right foot as you missed yet another turn, though understandable as you were eager to rejoin the group.
The second turning you missed saved you 5 mins from the correct route and given that i knew where you were in relation to the second call astounded me that you got to the finish well ahead of the main group.
I'm sorry to say, unlike many others who organise runs, i was not prepared to stop the main group of approx 25 cars on secondary roads to the endangerment of other public road users trying to pass us to allow you to catch up, which, is just as well as you deviated from the route, unintentionally.

It is also down to the condition of the car, some minis on the run,are stock, and some heavely customed, making some of the cars handle very diffrent from others (the differance in making a corner at 60mph or hitting the ditch) any fool can put their foot on an accelerator pedal, but with a group all pushing themselfs, its only a matter of time before someone comes a cropper, or worse another motorist (who might not have as safe a car as a Mini),who just went out for a Sunday run,and was hit by some clown in a Mini, going too fast

If you are prepared to nominate who were the clowns in mini's going too fast on my run i will galdly not allow them to participate on any f

I did mention the pace was a bit fast even at Elgin stop to some of the group even then.
20 odd Minis at one point keeping up with an Ambulance is fool hardy to say the least,as no one knew what was up ahead.
As stated from my position`is this for me?`
Driving is also my daily job,and i am not throwing away my driving licence, for a bit of `fun`.
Overall the day was good, and a good chance to meet other Mini owners, but (before we got lost, and after all you knew the roads beforehand,we did not)the days pace overall was not for us,and we would not participate in another run regardless of who organised it should it progress at a pace we experienced,we will just break off and head for home.
hope that clears up a few points
Donald and PatElgin  we didn't go that fast surely, you must mean Edzell ;)
Donald & Pat, i'm obviously disappointed that the run didn't turn out to be good for the both of you :disapprove: i'm just surprised that it took you over a month to post your thoughts, something for me to consider on my next run :I
To put it into perspective and to try and make you and others understand that wildy differing speeds are achieved even with 26 mini's in alleged convoy, the ambulance you spoke of actually overtook me (and others) when i was obviously at the front :approve:
We even stopped, though briefly at the cyclist accident scene to offer any assistance that may be required.
I honestly hope this doesn't put you off from attending NMS runs in the future :p
To confirm your points, the last MINI2 run me and me Julie attended we were left for dust, but, followed the notes and joined up with the run at the end, so, just cause someone gets left behind cause they are driving within their limits and at a pace that suits them doesn't mean you can't complete the run :approve:

9th December 2006, 03:58 AM
Just to clear up,you are correct Edzell not Elgin,as for a month or so to reply i have not been on so much in recent days and had i not spotted the mini run rules post,i would not have commented,as it would look like i was the only one who did not like the pace on runs in general.
if you look at my original post its hard to judge a Mini run from 2 runs what is fast and what is slow, and would have waited until the next one to make our minds up,whats for us.
but on the whole, the runs may not be for us

Oo..2p time..
I know my limits.. and they generally (no ALWAYS now :I) end way before any limits the car are capable of:I
This was by no means the fastest run I've been on, actually I can't recall any which were far to excessive in the speed department, but that's not the point..
I have a Mini One, not quite the quickest car there ;):I but I kept up and didn't appear to be slowing anyone down. It's all about personal responsibility, if you think things are going too quickly, back off a bit. We all try to keep the group together as much as possible, sometimes it's not, due to uncontrollable circumstances.. Combine harversters, traffic lights etc, but we always meet at the regrouping points and wait for everybody to show.
If they don't that's why the run organiser's phone number is on the run notes. we'll get any lost cars there, or come find you! :)
There's been a lot of debate on here about run speeds etc, which is why the run rules thread was started. When it comes down to the fact, nobody makes you drive fast. I know I've backed off a few times on runs before when I've thought things have gone a bit Fast and Furious, and I would hope everybody round these parts would have the sense to do the same.
Don't let one run like that put you off :) Nobody wants to lose their licence! :I:D

I have to agree with LnL, I obviously didn't take part in the actual run so can only comment with an outsiders point of view. Any run is not a race, competition etc., if you feel things are going a bit fast, lift thy right fit and ging a bit slower, read your directions and catch up and the next re-group point. I know on some runs I've felt things were a bit too fast for my ability so dropped down the group a bit. Don't be put off, the runs are a great place to meet folk and generally part-take in some verbal abuse of certain members ;):p:D

They're right you know. Have lost count of the amount of times I've had to be found on runs, on one occasion more than once. Can never follow the run notes so have to second guess junctions if I'm well behind the others but if the worst came to the worst then I'd just say to 'Tom', "Home James, and dont spare the horses!". :D:D:D
