Alright Aberdeen Golfers. Which is the best course? Auchmill, Balnagask, Hazlehead 1 or 2, or Kings Links:question:

Hawkshill at Newmacher :) but only because that's where I used to be a member!

I used to like Hazelhead 1 a lot, although I've not played any of them in years. The links was too much like hard work as you needed to really have pretty good control of the ball before the wind caught it.

Balnagask & Auchmill - don't use good balls as the little kids who lived nearby used to nick them before you got to the ball! Don't know if they still do though.

You may also try this if your going to play with someone else - http://www.2-fore-1golf.com You buy a voucher for £2.50 and when you both play together you only pay for 1 person. There are quite a few nice courses round Aberdeen where you can use them. Newmacher is good but I think you'll need a handicap, Kemney is good as well, it's maturing into a nice course now.

Well since I don't have a handicap that sods me up a lil. Hmmmm. Hazelhead looked like not a ad course when I went up for a peer about. Didn't look too busy either. Looked tight though so methinks plenty of golf balls will have to be bought! :) It's an expensive business getting into golf again! New golf clubs, bag, balls, shoes... the list is endless!!!

Try Hazelhead 2 - from what I recall it's a bit more forgiving than 1, but still a lot of trees and bushes about! And you can get some good deals on balls on the web.

Last time I played Kemney I didn't have a valid handicap but they didn't ask for one.

Hmmmm. I wiznae askin' where the best course is in Scotland! I was asking what one in Aberdeen is best!;)

I agree with Sedgie though. The old course is by far the best, not really because of the course, although it's cracking, it's more because of the atmosphere.

You playing the old course BS?

Col - I was told that the municipal course at Huntly is one of the best municipal courses in the country, it's 35miles outside of Aberdeen though.

If you could be bothered travelling 25 mins out of Aberdeen, Inchmarlo 9 hole or 18 are fantastic courses! They are in Banchory.

Gismo
24th July 2006, 09:07 PM
If travel is no object, Col, there is a very good secondary course here in Montrose, the Broomfield, it's a little over 4,000 yards and is a par 66 i think :I
The other course is a different matter and will be an open qualifer for Carnoustie again next year :p

Alford is another excellent "short" course too, about 25 mins thrash drive from Aberdeen ;)

Big Col
25th July 2006, 03:43 PM
One of the guys here in work says he's a member of a course in Banchory I think...wonder if it's that one.

I knew about the main course in Montrise BS but does it not cost a fortune to play? It'd also kill me. That's why I'm avoiding Cruden bay just now!

I never knew about Broomfield though. It'd be a nice place to stop on the way home one Saturday!

VB what direction is Huntly?

euan
25th July 2006, 04:08 PM
Banchory is supposed to be a nice course from what I recall.

Huntly - It's up the A96, kind of W NW direction.
