CARAVAN TOUR

Myself and my girlfriend have turned our backs on typical week long spanish holidays and instead have managed to get our hands on a caravan and plan to go around the UK.

Any tips on where to go. we would need maybe 3 different sites in 3 locations.

A great destination for Caravans is......anywhere but the road:D

West Coast is great at this time of year (Oban, perhaps?)

Also, the Lake District.

Also, near Alton Towers (in the Peak District) - that's good too!

Depends what kind of holiday you want - quiet or rowdy!?!? ;)

Sleepy, depends where you want to go....

York is great. Used both caravan club sites... Rowntree Park is right in the middle of the town and is great to see york without having to drive everywhere. Beechwood Grange is on the ring road on the outskirts and is also a cracking site.

North Ledaig in Oban is superb, also (it was voted best site and is on the banks of Loch Linnie... can't remember the name though...) it's well worth it... :D:D

I mostly caravan in Scotland so most of my recommendations would be there... here are a few..

Blair Atholl Castle Caravan Park
Nethercraig Caravan Park, Alyth
Yellocraigs, North Berwick
Craigtoun Meadow, St Andrews
Culloden Moor, Near Inverness.
Melrose Caravan Park, Melrose, Borders.

Good for you Sleepy! Can't beat the peace and tranquility of a caravan holiday.

Best suggestion I can give you is to join the Caravan Club (http://www.caravanclub.co.uk) or the Camping & Caravanning Club (http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/). Both organisations have a massive network of sites throughout the UK giving a wide choice of locations and types of site. The Caravan Club membership is £34 per year, and gets you extended access to their web site. I haven't joined the Caravan & Camping Club but it looks like their membership costs £33.

Club sites IMHO tend to be cleaner, well managed and mostly quieter than commercial sites. They used to be cheaper but this doesn't tend to be the case so much these days.

There's only one non-club site I would strongly reccommend - Linwater Caravan Park (http://www.linwater.co.uk) - located half way between Livingston and Edinburgh, really peacefull site, run by a nice family. It's a regular haunt of Lenore and I. Maybe a reason to avoid:eek::D

And yeah! What Craig said. Especially about Yellowcraigs. But try to keep that for shoulder season when the kids are in school.:D

You've got more chance of getting a tractor or a white van man to pull over!

What happened at the end of that adventure should be the fate of all caravans on the road.

I don't want to put you off, but, coming back from Glasgow airport last night there was a very nasty caravan crash on the M8, absolutely wrecked and covered 3 of the 4 lanes (included a slip way)
Make sure you're towing weight is correct etc etc
Apart from that, hope it all goes well :)

The Rhodes caravan site in North Berwick has the best views ever. Small friendly site within walking distance of NB town........and you can wave to the Weefossies as you pass!!

Ok, thanks for all the info so far. The latest is were gona camp instead. Apparently I have to take a bloody caravan driving test because I passed after 1997. Pants.

So I have most of the week sorted for venues, just looking for a nice place somewhere around Oxford. Or anywhere close-ish to London (ideally Northerly).

Ive tried three of the well known ones and they were fully booked.

diamond, campingandcaravaningclub and swiss farm are all booked. Pants. The only one available so far is one called green hills.
