Fontal, you could try a home-made lightning detector - a kite with a bulb at the end of the string :D

The page is going nuts just right over the West Midlands.

I can vouch for it's accuracy, as I'm sitting in Worcester just now and we've had thunder and lightening all last night and this morning, flash floods, the whole thing!
