O my goodness. That brings back a scenario from a wild winter's night in the 70's. Me and my current boyfriend of the time were driving from Fraserburgh to Rosehearty mid-evening in his mini van. I spotted this elderly woman standing outside factory gates waiting for a bus. Buses are few and far between on this route and at that time of night in particular. I suggested we stop to offer her a lift which we did. I was going to climb in the back but this wifie who I know was well past retirement age, threw her leg over the side and jumped in telling us that in her hey day it would have been the back of a cart. She sat like a very stout, proud and formidable statue in the back. headscarf whipping around her face in the wind and rain. I felt awful since I was protected from the elements but was also in hysterics by the time we dropped her at her house. I still feel guilty for having laughed so much.
