I've got the red-octagon cloth that was available from the 2004 facelifted models.
It stains incredibly - just from rain water - e.g. putting an umbrella on the seat or the rainwater running off the door.
Do they all do this? I'm wondering if its because i've previously used upholstery cleaner and i'm in a vicious circle now...

no, well not for me anyway, sure it just isn't drying out properly or that the water is severely dirty?

If its Glasgow acid rain it will probally start eating through your seats ;) I have the same problem Rob, i needed to clean the whole seat and not just the area of the stain.

Mine is exactly the same the blue cloth on my seats stain with rain water from my jacket or when it runs in off the roof when u open the door. Just have to clean them every few weeks with a damp cloth and it comes back up just like new
