Hi, joined a few weeks ago but only just posting tonight.
Already posted in another thread but thought I'd say hi here.
Don't own a Mini yet but plan to get one within a few months to add to the garage, which currently consists of a Fiesta and an Elise.
I'll probably just lurk here for a few months until I eventually get round to buying :D

Cheers

Si.

Hi there Simon, welcome to the site, i quite fancy an elise or an exige, the mini is a totally different car and challenge to drive.
Will you be getting rid of your elise for the mini ;)

No way I'll be getting rid of the Elise, it's superb fun and I love it too much. I actually need another car as my girlfriend uses the Fiesta daily just now and I get the train to work but we're moving office in a few months, so I'll be using the feestie as my daily hack and she'll get the Mini. There's nothing stopping me using the Elise daily other than the amount of miles that'll get piled on so I'd rather not use it for that.

I would have loved to get an Elise when I sold my MINI, but it was just a little bit too raw for use as an everyday car.
I also had a look at a VX220 as they were supposed to be a little bit softer. In the end decided on an MX5.

I had a look at a VX220 but they were a nightmare to get in and out of due to that HUGE sill!

The elise is worse, smaller door! I'd imagine for you it would be like trying to get into your house through the letterbox

The sills on the S1 Elise were worse than the VX or the S2 but they're not that bad once you get used to it, it's all a matter of technique. I know someone who is 6' 7" and they quite happily owned an S1 Elise for a few years.
VXs are a bit softer as they have airbags, servo brakes and abs (though new Elises have the last 2). Saying that, the VX isn't much softer and it's the rawness of the Elise/VX that makes them such brilliant cars to drive.

Of course, you get all the S1 vs S2 vs VX banter on forums and I'm sure that's bound to happen for the Mini eventually too :D

I posted this pic in another thread but here it is again:
