Is it ok to have a mix of tyre makes? i.e. Pirellis on the front and Dunlop on the back?

doesn't make a huge difference unless you drive like schumacher...;)

I always like them the same, but when money is tight.... ;)

The way you drive you'll be fine :clown:, but for drivers who like to press on, like myself, should try to avoid or at least have the best rubber on the back wheels :D

Why would you want the best rubber on the back wheels in a front wheel drive car?

So theey grip a bit better and the back end doesn't go for a wander into the bushes sideways :p

Understeer is easier to control in a front wheel drive car than having the back end all over the place?

Because if the front end goes its understeer, and is usually easier to spot and correct. However I've now got the hang of catching rear wheel slides :D

But oversteer is WAY more fun!

yeh, you can mix..
as long as you have the same tread on each axel mate.

HEY COL you can mix no problem as long as the speed rating is the same on both axel's mate not the same tread <broon>

I'm replacing both the fronts with Pirelli runflats mate. Thanks for the replies folks. £234 for 2 Pirelli run flats fully fitted from Kwik fit of all places!?!?!

I'm just about to bin the runflats, went for Yokohamas. 18's, £104 aech fitted, damn sight cheaper than those bloody Dunlop runflats!

Anyway, as I'll now need to get magic tyre goo, can anyone recommend what product to get and where?

Mt tyres are 205/45/R17 V Norman mate. I already asked Roadster for a price.

Crombers if you go on the kwik-fit website they normally have a deal on a particular make. It changes every 2 weeks or so. A wee while ago it would have been £270 for 2 dunlops but they'd be £310 now so I went for the Pirellis. :)

I've just got two 16" Goodyear NCT5 runflats, fitted, for £229 inc vat by Harry Fairbairns (EXCELLENT SERVICE by the way).

I like run flats coz they're safer (I once had a very frightening motorway blowout...) and the car was designed for them - and i like the extra-firm ride! The Goodyears are meant to be "green" (low rolling resistance) and quiet at speed and fairly hard wearing but not sporty. The inability to get them repaired is a pain in the wallet though!
