3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS £30,

SO EACH MAN PAID £10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.

A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIsED THE ROOM WAS ONLY £25,

SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH £5.

ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT £5 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 MEN,

SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A £1 AND KEPT THE OTHER £2 FOR HIMSELF.

THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID £9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF £27,

ADD THE £2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = £29.

WHERE IS THE OTHER POUND?

Probably in Thomas Cook's currency place, due to all those conversions :p

Moki: you haven't made the puzzle any easier by mixing £'s and $'s in the text.

It doesn't really make it any harder, it's just a typo - there's not really any currency conversion involved. :clown:

The £9 that each man paid actually covered the room and the bellboy's tip.

So the men paid £25 for the room and were refunded £3 plus the bellboy kept £2 which equals £30. :approve:

Yeah. They never paid £25 for the room. They paid £27 since they bellboy put the room price up for the guys by nicking £2.

They paid £27 for the room, the bellboy nicked £2, thats £29, so where is the other £1 ?

There is no other pound mate. It's all in the wording of that's question that's confusing. The £2 that gets added on again to bring the total to £29 shouldn't be added on again as it's already been paid for by the guys in the room. That's why the room costs £27 and not £25. :)

£30 (what they paid in the beginnning)
-£5 (amount that should be refunded)
+£3 (amount that was actually given back)
=£28

£28
+£2 (amount thieving gyppo kept)
=£30
