I have one in the back of Minnie - so far I havent had to use it in anger although I did try it on some old tyres at the back of our workshop and it worked a treat, how easy it would be to use with the wheel on at the side of the road Im not sure.

I did read that its better to jack up the wheel (to locate the nail etc ) , but best results seem to be to remove the wheel and tyre ,check the inside etc , but as a temp measure it seems ok , as is a run flat tyre :p, mmm might save the tyre a bit , but then you need to get air into the tyre again ....sure as heel aint pumping it up with a foot pump ,thats for sure :D:D:D, so the next thing is an air comp !!!..never ending or what ;)
