I installed it on Satueday after swapping over my 40 GB slave drive for a speedy new 120GB drive with a 8MB buffer. Loads of room to stuff with rubbish now!
Panther is magic - especially the fast user switching effects!!

Hi fellow Panthers
Got an iSight yet Gaj? - I finally got mine and an iPod:p, just trying whether to get an iTrip or whether to wire the iPod into the CDprep as has been mentioned on M2.

At home - I've now got broadband so I figure I should make the most of it by upgrading.
I'm afraid the G4 at work will be running 9.2 for the foreseeable future. At £1000 a pop we can't justify upgrading 3 copies of Quark, Photshop etc just to run on OSX when it does the same thing on the older system. I know they'll run in classic mode but quite a few of our applications aren't happy in the X environment and don't display properly.
I've got a 400Mhz iMac with 512mb of RAM - will Panther run Ok?

No iSight yet - probably best if noone can see me most of the time!
I think hard wireing is the way to go. I am a bit disappointed with the sound quality through the itrip - sounds a bit wooly. Maybe I'm too fussy!
I don't have the CD changer prep but I would like a way to get my ipod connected via a minijack.
Calum, when are you going for the big switch? I'll give you a hand!

Yes it will, Pat has a 350MHz iMac with less RAM than that and it is running Panther fine.
I figured that OS X would have to wait a bit at work.

I have now joined the 21st century Mac users and am running Panther. I like what I've seen so far but it will take a wee bit of getting used to.

It takes ages to get used to -
- not having extension conflicts
- not having to restart if an application crashes
- true multi tasking
- proper memory management
- a cool interface!
and loads of other wee things that I can't remember at this time in the morning.
Still not happy that you are getting that zooming icon effect when you open applications on your antique and that isn't happening on my machine.
It's an injustice!!

Genie effect not working for you Gaj?
Mac help app stopped working when i installed panther. Did a second install (archive install , that you choose under options , just after u agree to terms and conditions at the beginning of the install)
Archive install leaves all your user folders etc alone but creates a new system folder and an archived system folder, once uve done the install and checked everything is alright u just bin the old system folder.
Solved my problem with the mac help app not working.:D

Either that or you need to change ur perfs in system prefs/ dock /Minimize using genie effect / and check on annimate opening applications.
On the other hand it might just be cause ur using a dodgy g4 :p

Brian, its not the minimise effect that isn't working, its when you double click an icon to open the app.
I did do an archive install when i installed it. Sorted it now - clean install on newlly initalised HD!!
