Great news!! Especially since Mini world have sat on the fence for so long. Why did it take publishers so long to realise they had to back the new mini, to give their advertisers / after sales suppliers a growing market as a target. Look forward to the first copy.
Julz, is this the mag Baby B is going to be a "centre fold" in?

Great to see a New Mini mag but I hope this is not a sign of the mini scene splitting into two camps. This is just what the new mini haters want.

I think its a shame that there is a separate magazine.

It will encourage the stupidity that has been going on South of the border at shows and stuff.

I presume this means also that Mini mag will become Classic Mini only?

Wul
14th November 2003, 03:10 AM
Rob - i understand what you mean but as the popularity of the MINI grows the combined mag would become too big to keep at a reasonable price where both types of owner would end up coughing out £5+ per issue to probably only read half the magazine - then you'd get each side moaning about this - stopping their subscriptions and ultimately killing the mag off altogether:(

I reckon each mag should still pay homage to each other in someway to keep the silliness at bay!

macblob
14th November 2003, 03:24 AM
I think the new car needs a mag as there is very little about them in the traditional mini magazines, you only really get a few wee articles here and there.

However I understand where ur coming from Rob

Still looking forward to the mag though :D

Willie M
14th November 2003, 05:01 PM
Agree with you to an extent Rob, wouldn't like to see anything perpetuate the Mini / MINI bigotry. I think you're right about Mini Mag staying as a classic magazine, this months issue has next to nothing about new MINI in it. Looks like they're gearing up for the switchover to the new mag.

I'm afraid that, for me anyway, Mini World (despite doing some reasonable features on the new car) have only continued to fan the embers by consistently publishing some very inflammatory letters within their pages. I would have though an impartial editor would have had a bit more sense.

<jumps down from his high horse>.... I'll get my coat :I

Duncan Stewart
14th November 2003, 06:15 PM
I would have thought the existing mini magazines could make room for more articles on the new mini by reducing the amount of classic minis featured - they are often so similar anyway and this month both mini mag and miniworld featured the same classic mini! (it did have new mini rear lights ;)).
I also don't like the way they keep refering to the "BMW" mini - no one talks about "Ford" Landrovers or "Ford" Aston Martins (which are also British motoring icons with a long heritage).
Not that I have anything against BMW (make great cars) or the classic mini (I own one!)
What do others think?

Burple
14th November 2003, 11:53 PM
Ok.. My turn... <Rant mode ON>
Just a couple of questions really...
You don't see Classic Mini owners arguing and turning up their noses (or making rude gestures on the road) to other Classic Mini owners do you? Even when some of them are Austins, some are Morris, Some are BL some are Rovers... and latterly even newer Sportspacks were technically BMWs too... They don't bitch about that....do they?
I got shot down big time in a Classic Mini Forum for asking these questions (put in a very polite manner - with the disclaimer that I was only looking for opinions, not an argument) - My thread was deleted after a day and a half, and one very rude remark... hmmmm
I even stated the fact that I've had numerous Classics in the past - including my Pick up, Clubby etc..
But suddenly it was 'blinkers on, avoid eye contact'...
Ok... I think that's enough for now.. I'm going to put the lights off and have a lie down... or maybe just hit the Student's Union....
hmmm... anyone fancy a beer??? ;);)
<rant Mode OFF>

Hope y'all are having a fine Friday :D:D;)

Very high quality mag with excellent photography and one Richard Hammond as the staff writer! Nice accessories section and group tests of modded S's and a big feature on some serious ICE. Willie...this magazine could seriously damge your wealth!

I wanna be part of the gang so I just bought a copy too.

Got to agree that the photography is excellent. I suspect that it will be down hill from here though. I don't believe that you can fill a magazine with such a narrow spectrum of interest with interesting articles every month. Repetition will probably start in February!

I don't doubt that I will buy it anyway and it will sit in the big pile of magazines I get delivered every month and never look at. And not that kind of magazine before anyone starts!

And the article showing how to fit an air filter is rubbish!

28th November 2003, 05:43 AM

GAJ
28th November 2003, 08:03 AM
That's good news that it's bi-monthly as there is no way that it would remain readable over any period of time otherwise - if you don't believe me try subscribing to any specialist interest magazine for a period of time - repetition invariably soon steps in.

Don't you worry about my bubble bazza:question:, I don't want the magazine to get dull, it's just that I feared that it may get that way if it was a monthly publication - hopefully it will take twice as long as I initially thought though!

What about the 3 pioneer MINI's - the one with the HUGE sub that fills the boot and is driven by 4...yes 4 amps is outrageous!

Shouldn't be any real problems replacing any of the windows in that MINI - just turn the volume/bass up and they'll pop out themselves! :D

Got the mag today in Brum. Good quality pictures and layout. Like everybody else, I hope they can keep the standards up to current level. Whether you like or dislike him (I like), they paid the money to get "Clarkson" in the first issue, so they seem to be committed.
The ICE article was almost the same as the MAX Power article in November.
No doubt they will get ideas from Mini2.com, NMS etc. as the months go on.

yeah... noticed that... it's in MiniMag too.. and a few others... wish they could get the details right... the wheels are shocking!!

Yeah Corgi are not reknowned for there attention to detail on there models. Noticed the bonnet scoop missing from the Red S and on my original italian job set the spot lights are all in a row rather than in a "hi-lo" configuration as in the film. Looks like they just take stock models and produce them in the right colours.

Scalextric have produced an Italian job set with excellent cars - but only 2 - both seem to have the right details - bumpers, grills, spots, wheels, etc and the cooper S has bonnet scoop and chrome "S" logo side repeaters. Guess what I'm getting for Christmas!

Just got round to reading the mag properly and a bit disappointing really. :( .I hope all the featured cars are not all going to be about "let’s see how much we can spend" type. While these cars have a place in the mag as the extreme of their type there needs to be input about Minis with interesting (not necessarily expensive) things done to them and/or have good stories about them. Just my opinion  – don’t you body kitted lot get upset now!;);)

I finally got it - my friend managed to get me one ( or possibly the last one) out of McColls on Hanover Street. Not really read it in depth yet but nice to see a kent face - Dora !! And what a B'day present that girl got !!!!! Not sure about all the Italian Job coverage though....we did finally see it and I thought the best bits were the boat chase and Charlize driving through town in her wee red original. Give me Mr Caine's classic version any day.

Sadly no, the guy who interviewed me had a bad tape which resulted in no audio, so, we had to redo it again at the end of December over the telephone.
So, will have to wait until the next issue :(
However, my magazine is sitting in the hoose awaiting my return from offshore :)

Does anyone agree with me that the geezer with the Goldmember mini in go mini should be charged with cruelty to minis,I know that mods are a personal taste thing but it just looks cheap and nasty like a Nova Boys toy.

I preferred his mini when he had it in the purple/green flip paint, at least then it resembled a mini!!:dead:

Finally my copy arrived today but not impressed - A mega rich kid who spends obscene amounts of money to mangle a mini and another "cool dude" cruising in my mini article. :( Maybe I will think it's better once I have time to read it properly.

Ken - you can get a copy at Borders in Kinnaird Park - there seems to be quite a few specialist car mags there (if you can get parked!).

Generally I thought the mag was good - focussing on all the models in the range. I think though the format although good is a bit Max Power and am not sure how long you can sell a mag with a focus on mods. I think it would be good to have some content on the lifestyle aspect - various trips, e.g a Europe run, and son on. The Pacific Coast Highway article was good and more stuff like that would make me buy it again.

Re: the F**KING orange thing...it just goes to prove the old addage...money can't buy you taste! YUCK! A Cooper S Challenge car actually passed me on the M9 a week back

Yet again they have excelled themselves in managing to avoid mentioning NMS once again. Even MINI2Mini got a footnote!

Bombard them with emails and piccys!

Re the orange nightmare!

In the main pic if you look at the side skirts they look like they've be filled/ sanded/ painted by a blind man! All lumps and bumps!

I wondered what all the fuss was about the 'orange' MINI.

Then I bought the magazine and read it - isn't there a law against doing things like that to a car??? If it had been the April issue then you would think it was some kind of joke.

Can we maybe get the guy on a MINI run. Then we could arrange to meet him at a KFC and see how many wheels he damages..... ;)

Right, just read the mag from front to back, hmm, reading some of the articles i felt they were a tad too long, half way through and i found myself skimming through he words for the end and any interesting points.
Although my car should appear in the next issue i'm not convinced the mag will be able to have owners car as the main feature except mine of course ;) every issue.
I found the question section was cleverly used to, er, um, coincide with a few articles covered in the issue.

Ah well, looking forward to the next issue :p i'm sure it'll be a bestseller
