Engine free reving

My mini has started free reving above 4500 revs like the clutch is slipping and comes back on itself once about 5500 revs are reached, it only does it at this rev range and cannot be done at any other no matter how hard i accelerate, it has no effect on the engine or driving at all, has anyone had similar or any ideas. millage is 42000 so i cant see it being the clutch as it only happens at that cirtain band.

Sounds like a trip to the garage Chris. I've not heard of this one. Tried asking on Mini2 ?

I guess so Duncan, it due a service in 600 miles anyway
