Sounds good to me. Don't they have a circuit as well? that would be much more fun in a mini that drag racing - minis were built for corners! mind you might be safer in a straight line.

The only time Ive been to the airfield was to photograph it for work...
we'll be able to stop at the in-laws for tea afterwards.

It'd be nice to see something happening at Crail :) Linda tried at the bginning of the year (http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23466&highlight=Crail) but there didn't seem to be enough interest :disapprove: and there was another thread not that long ago by Anteater that seemed to die a death :dead:

Looking back at Linda's old thread I see that costs were going to work out around £35 per car.

Great to see you grabbing things by the scruff of the neck and trying to organise some events Seany (good man) If dates permit, Linda and I will certainly be there  I'm telling you now though, she's no gettin' to play wi Alan and Julz's beasts
Oh, and tea at John's mam & dads sound great, should I wear a shirt & tie? ;)

Track day sounds most fun but is it is a timed run, one at a time? . I don't fancy us running into each other!

Gismo
5th November 2003, 07:47 AM
There have been many track days down south posted on MINI2, so far so good, no accidents and many good reports, at the end of the day everyone is there for a bit of fun.

I'm keen on this and we should support people who are prepared to organise somehting, if everyone drives within themselves i'm sure we'll have a great time.

What about insurance for track days, drag racing etc?

Duncan Stewart
6th November 2003, 05:56 PM
When I did motorsport in the 80's in my classic mini we used to pay about £10 to a company called "Boaring" (spelling right?) for insurance but I am pretty sure this was third party for damage we did to the surroundings (I had to claim for a farmers fence - oops!)
I fully support this idea and huge thanks to Seany for organising it.

Having seen it mentioned on MINI2 i'm sure it is dependant on location, some offer it as part of the day, others you have to provide it yourself.

With a wee bit of research i'm sure it will be resolved prior to the run taking part.

This sounds like fun. When would you be looking at next year? Put me down for it in the cooper class.

Quik_Mini
17th December 2003, 12:28 AM
Well this post doesn't look like it has been posted in for a little while so I think I will keep it alive...

I am really really up for this idea.. Currently Crail Raceway does not have a track, they have a skid pan though :)

They do two different methods of hiring for the day, you can get the cheaper option where you just basically get the 1/4 mile and thats it, but you are best going with the more expensive deal, then you get all the timing gear etc, everything you need and it is staffed also..

Sounds like great fun, put me in the cooper class for now, but if we are waiting a while I can go in the Cooper S class hehehe. If it is a while I will really look forward to going up against Alan and John (sorry if i got the names wrong, you know i'm new)

Heh last time I was up there was the fast car day (the black stripped out mini for anyone that was there) my mate ran a 12 sec in his 400bhp Escort Cosworth, but then the gearbox blew up. He was their 2 weeks earlier in his Leon and the dump valve blew off lol.

Minis are for corners not straights :p:D;)
But well done Seany for organising something and I'm sure I will have fun on a drag track. I might even bring my classic down as well - is there a prize for the slowest run

No crail has no sort of set out track... I think they do an option where you can get them to set out cones etc to make a track, but I am not positive on this.. Their main features are the 1/4 mile and the oval ring (skid pan)
Its good for a day out at Crail, get to fly up and down a 1/4 mile and then go into St Andrews mmm beach (Live in largs so see the beach every day anyways not like we ever get the weather) :)

No  My classic is an unmodified 1275 so it's not likely to be up to much drag racing, but racing round cones is a different matter - our classics would beat the new minis! ;) Stir, stir, stir

I wonder if they'd let you take the classics round the go-kart track.

It's a great we track. My brother used to test his kart there. ther corners don't half give you a sore neck the next day though!

Heh excellent the list keeps going and going. Looks like I will be keeping my Cooper, compiled a list of the mods I was needing to get a Cooper S to 300bhp and I think 50k in mods alone is quite a bit out of my league for now. Damn gearbox, clutch and 4wd shot that price up alot lol. :D :D

If you'd care to browse the forums you'll see there are certain categories, hop along to the "introduce youself" forum and tell us a bit about yourself, don't be scared to post replies to peoples questions or even ask some yourself :)

We are a very friendly bunch who get together at various time for a run and social events, join us on our next run on the 29th Feb :D
