sporting hero ?

Been a lot of discussion about the recent deaths of two sporting heros, this got me thinking about who mine is,

My all time great is Mr Joey Dunlop OBE

Joey Dunlop was the quiet, cheerful, unaffected family man from Ballymoney.

He made no boasts, issued no threats, avoided the headlines and concentrated on getting on with the job. Joey, "The King of the Roads", through courage and ambition became the most successful rider of all time.

In addition to winning five Formula One World Championships he has made sporting history by setting a new world record of 26 wins in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Races.

His feats have been suitably recognised at the highest level by the award to him in 1986 by Her Majesty The Queen of the M.B.E. This was followed in 1996 by the award of the O.B.E. for his humanitarian efforts.

Throughout his career, Joey always brought great honour to Northern Ireland.

Until a few years ago it would have had to have been Jim Clark, but its now Alex Zanardi, the courage, determination and humour he has shown since his accident have been incredible.

Makes you realise how lucky you are in life

You beat me too it! No-one could beat the way that man has made a successful comeback into motor-racing, after losing both legs in a racing accident.
The thing which really makes him a hero, is that he himself doesn't think he's anything special.

Although for an all round biker you cannae beat the French dude John Micheal Balle (spelling:I) After winning the world motocross he went to the states and won at supercross then came back home and was pretty good at 250/500 Grand Prix as well:D Top bloke considering he was French;) :p:D:approve:

He was a god in supercross, motocross, and now freestyle!! He invented and made popular the super/motocross + freestyle we know today and of course, the NAC NAC. I remember watching him in Terifirma (his first big movie) when I was still racing in the 80cc class. So inspiring!!! Although I blame him for all my injuries!!:D

Could have two, one would be Ayrton Senna just because of the talent he had. Otherwise I'd go with Stevie Gerrard after the champions league win last year.
