Did anyone see tonights fifth gear
Old Tiff has been trying to get a road car to go 200 mph, he based it on a Lotus, but, it kept failing
Enter a ford sierra cossie, 206 mph :p tiff's face, priceless

43k, almost the cost of your S :p
The guy just wore a fleece, no safety helmet, one handed :p

Why on earth did they go for a lotus, talk about asking for trouble.:(

There are loads of other cars that could have got them a damn sight closer for the same money......

It's like that old joke. L.O.T.U.S = Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious.

The guy in the cossie was a nutter right enough though! On another note wasn't there a thread on here where someone was asking about getting one of those clear covers they put on the Elise put on their mini?

I liked the guy in the cossie, like BS says, wearing a cardi and driving one handed!! How lovely did the dump valve sound on that Lotus though!!:p I love dump valves, just as well seeing as I've got one farting away under me bonnet!!;):D

The choice of the esprit was an interesting one. Why choose a car that was made up of components that haven't changed much since the late 70's?

The guy in Cossie was a loony. Doing that kind of speed in a car that old the way he was dressed was mad, but very very funny when you saw the stuff Tiff had on.

Remember one thing, the car you choose must not already be able to do 200mph in standard trim.
The deal was to make a car be able to do it by tuning and modding ;)

Woo!! cool

I remember seeing something similar a few years back.. I thin k it was in Custom Car mag.. It was a Kawasaki Green Reliant Kitten (4-wheel Robin :D) with a 2.0 ford Pinto engine in it..

..... and wheelie bars on the back!!

:D:cool:

To be in with a realistic chance, you need something rear wheel drive, and already pretty quick.

I'm thinking something like a Supra, 300ZX, or even an old Skyline. These things have all had huge BHP put out by them in the past, the chassis can take it, and they are a load cheaper than an Esprit.

I'm thinking along the lines of a De-Loreon :p

I was thinking of a TVR bolt on a couple of turbos and whoosh! :p

Are things like Modded Caterhams allowed? ;) tHinking especially along te lines of the R1 or Hayabusa powered beasties..

...mind you... you'd have to get someone else to take one of THEM up to 200 mph for me!!!! ;);):p:p:D:D:D

They would never make it... probably 140 - 150 is their limit, due to the aerodynamics of a brick

Yep, spot on that's why the Cossie had 850bhp (i think) and the Esprit only needed 650bhp to crack 200mph (theorectically)

The Dogfather

Hmmmmmmmmm! Just thinking my Omega has only 174bhp yet it says is capable of 140mph in the handbook, therefore it must be quite aerodynamic.

So the omega coupe ;) aka. VXR Monaro would be a good choice...... it already has a top speed of over 170mph!!!!
