I saw a car yesterday with the front number plate displaying the registration in mirror image, so that it would look correct if viewed by another driver in their mirror.

It looked weird and I actually had to walk round and look at the rear plate to make sure I was not imagining things.

Doubt it - I thought your not allowed to change with the font, layout, colour or anything else (to be fair, I've not left much!)

No, and I took a photo:
It is mirror imaged isn't it, or am I going mad?

I think you might find that someone is playing a joke on this poor guy and turned his plate upside down. There was a spate of this in Aberdeen a while back where people would either turn plates upside down or put the back on the fron and vice versa. Thats would make this guys reg number S86 DSX

Infact, i ran a data check on the reg S86 DSX... the result is shown below:

Results for s86 dsx

Vehicle details
Manufacturer HONDA
Model CIVIC 1.8 VTI
Body type 5 DOOR HATCHBACK
Colour GREEN
Fuel type PETROL
Date manufactured 31 December 1998
Number of previous owners 2
Last owner change 23 February 2002

POOR CHAP :D:D:D

Actually, I'm wrong, a palindrome is a word that is spelt the same backwards and fowards.

Palindrome is where the word reads the same from either end.
I remember from school a palindromic phrase (if that is the correct term)
"Able was I ere I saw Elba" - supposedly attributed to Napoleon!

I couldn't find a specific name for a mirrored word, just this info:

The other kind of palindrome is the mirrored palindrome. These are palindromes which are graphically reversible. Not all letters in mirrored palindromes necessarily have symmetry about a vertical axis (A, H, I, M, O, T, U, V, W, X) since some letters are (more or less) mirror images of others (e.g. L and J). Therefore a mirrored palindrome is not necessarily also a traditional palindrome. Punctuation and spaces cannot be ignored when creating mirrored palindromes. When reversed A TOYOTA becomes ATOYOT A which, strictly speaking, is not the same. WOT TOW, although fairly meaningless, is a valid mirrored palindrome. Of course, with this type of palindrome, it is important whether upper or lower case letters are used: bid is a mirrored palindrome, but BID is not.

There is an ambigram - is a word or a group of words which can be read in at least two different ways. The most usual are symmetric under a rotation of 180 degrees (i.e., they look the same upside down) or under a vertical axis reflection (i.e., they look the same in a mirror).

You beat me to it, I was just reading all those palindromes that Wikipedia has!

I work for the government for an agency (info non-disclosed) which monitors everything everyone is doing all over the country. I can probably get into your computer Wul if your online long enough! ....

Either that or I went to www.rac.co.uk and ran a free data check.

Personally, I like the first one!! :D:D:D:D:D
