Bit of triva I picked up been on a course the last few days on
Lubricants and as I'm sure you all know Castrol Duckhams etc etc is all BP anyway good bit of advice for any new car owners during run in period.
"You should not be flooring ( like any of us would be tempted) the car when it hasn’t been ran in correctly, you could glaze the cylinders, which means that your going to burn more oil. Also glazing can lengthen the running in period and lower your fuel consumption. Glazing is a by-product of the latest fully synthetic oils, although the oils are the best yet, they have this side affect, where being too gentle or to harsh on the motor in the initial 2000 miles doesn’t do the cylinder linings much good.
The smoke could be exacerbated by this phenomenon and more oil used.
They say and I'm only quoting that a engine that uses fully synthectic oil is only fully bedded after 5000k.
