is it easy to fit side skirts to the car, are they riveted on?, want to fit them myself ,gives me something to do when i get them

They should be held on with plastic trim clips like the standard ones...
Some screw in ones (about 4 qside?) and some 'pull apart' ones.
It *should* take you about half an hour to do them once you've plucked up the courage to rip the old ones off... (ohh the horrible noises!!!) :)
MAKE SURE you get enough new trim clips from your dealer to fit the new skirts!!!:I:D:D

There a peice Of cake to fit.. What Skirts are you looking to put on to replace the std ones.??
Just make sure you get the Clips from your DEaler before you start..

Part numbers for the clips are
07 13 7 073 915 x 4
07 13 1 480 419 x 18
Dirt cheap so you might as well get them up front - in case you do end up breaking some.
There are some DIY guides on Mini2 for fitting Cooper S skirts to a Cooper - will give you an idea of what is involved.

Don't forget to install the honeycomb effect bit in the rear end of the skirt before you actually attach the skirt to the car :I although it can be installed after, apparently 8)
