The plane I was in on way from Edinburgh to Heathrow was struck by lightning as we took off through a storm cloud, all of the lights went out for a second and then came back on. We were joking about how it might have affected the instrumentation, when the passenger next to me found his digital watch had reset itself to 00:00.
Apparently these kind of events happen all of the time, and as you are inside what is essentially a Faraday Cage there is little danger to you. I have a photo somewhere of an old car with passengers in it being hit by a lightning simulator and you can see the spark jumping over the tyres to ground - The passengers were fine. So if you are caught out in the open in a storm, the safest place to take shelter is inside a car.
