power steering

Had to call Mini Emergency today as my one had died completely.
It appears that the power steering pump is still running even when the engine is switched off and therefore draining the battery. When the BMW technician was inspecting the car, everything appeared normal (after he jump started it) but (sods law) as soon as he left, the pump started whirring away even though the engine had been switched off for ten minutes?
Has anyone else suffered this kind of prob?

problem solved! apparently water can penetrate the electric motor that works the power steering pump and can cause short circuits - new pump and electrics getting fitted tomorrow:cool:
Slightly puzzled though as it ain't rained here for weeks:question:
