I've a question for all you guys who own a set of the 17" R90 BMW/MINI split-rims... I'm looking to change my tyres on these wheels and opting for normal/non-runflat tyres, however, i was wondering about the rims themselves. Will the r90 rim accept normal tyres?? (i know some rims are differently designed for runflats and thus incompatible with normal rubber)
Any suggestions for the best tyre that suits the r90 rim?

All rim will take normal tyres, whoever told you they'll only take run flats is talking crap or trying to con you into paying for the more expensive tyres.

probably the bmw garage told you that, cos i know they told me the S spoke only takes runflats :p
Id recommend goodyear eagle f-1... replaced my runflats to those a while ago, the difference is amazing.

sh@z - what size tyre was the eagle f-1? I'm assuming the S-Spokes use same tyres as R90s - 205/45. Do goodyear do eagle f-1s in same size ratio?

mgemie - MINI2 has a listing of all possible sizes that you can fit but all 17 MINI wheels will take the same sizes of tyre.
You have a choice of 205 or 215 width in either 40 or 45 profile. I've got 215/40 Federals on mine and they have excellent grip in wet and dry.

and these r90s will take the wider 215/40s without any issues?

Info taken from MINI2 below, double check with the tyre supplier but this seems to indicate that they'll fit. It's what I have and I not had any problems. However I note that you've had your car lowered so in theory 215/40 would give you better clearance..

Yeah i assume so, went with 215/40 all the way round, slightly wider/lower profile than the 205/45 runflats but after much reading its what everyone recommended, and i recommend the same for ur setup ;)

You'll get less steering feel but more grip with the 215/40s when compared to 205/40. The larger tyres will protect your wheels though.

to be honest that may be true, but theres more steering feel with the non-runflat 215/40 as opposed to runflat 205/45's, mainly since their sidewalls arent made out of concrete lol.
