View Full Version : Glen Coe Run :: October

I'd be interested to know who'd be up for a run up the west coast in October, possibly with an overnight stop. I was thinking along the lines of Striling - GlenCoe - Fort William - then one of two options...over the sea tae Skye via the bridge or to Mallaig and round by Strontan and back across Loch Lhinne by ferry. Mallaig hasn't got the best accomodation but Arisaig does.

In the first instance it would be good if peeps could let me know dates which suite. Suggestions for a route would be good too.

I'm aware that I'm going to have to work around the two Dundee teams' home fixture list if we want any of the Dundonians come;):clown:

There will be a 20 car limit due to the logistics of accomodating that number of peeps overnight. For those worried about such things, can I assure you that the emphasis will be on cruising along at a leisurely speed in convoy. (Hopefully holding up a few caravaners along the way :D):cool:)

I should be OK for this too. So that's 3 cars - 17 to go!!

A nice leisurely cruise in the West sounds good. Would be better if it was later in October, due to getting kids sorted back at Uni. If this fits in with everyone else, it's 16 cars to go.
The "Lochalsh Hotel" might be a suitable venue, who could cope with the numbers at at a reasonable price. Will give some thought to a route.

Count me and Mrs M in for this one Calum, we should hopefully be getting ourselves sorted out by October. Pretty certain we'll come along in the one car though. So that's 5 down - 15 to go :)

How could BabyB miss this one out?? She'll hopefully be 'finished' by then!!:D:D 14 cars to go!

Big Col

I might meet up with you for a portion of the run. I probably won't be staying overnight though so that still leaves 14.

Duncan Stewart

Sounds great - some of my favourite roads! My only problem is a very busy October but I could do the last weekend (25th / 26th) as long as the start time is not too early as I am at a wedding in Aberdeen on the friday.

Oh bugger... that leaves 13!!! Typical... had to be me! ;)

If that's you're opinion fair enough!

I don't know what rules you're refering to though?! The rules that were posted up elsewhere in these forums were lifted from MINI2 and where there merely to encourage debate. If you had a point to raise then that was the place to air them.

Your loss mate..8):clown:

As far as I'm concerned it'll be the 'usual' rules that appear at the top of the directions for 'all' the runs.

Maybe if more folk actually helped in organising runs then they'd have a better idea as to why rules 'are' needed.

Your loss though, sounds a great run to me.

There is still space so you're more than welcome. A few of those registered are only doing part of the run. The only reason a limit was put on it was to avoid too much hassle when it came to getting accomodation.

Monsta Mo Mini

Was over on the west coast at the weekend and ended up in Mallaig. It would be fantastic to go up that way but the biggest problem is accomodating a party that size at that time of year. The only hotel large enough would have been the Loch Morar Hotel but it shuts at the end of September for the winter so Skye is the best option from that point of view.

There are quite a few hotels in Portee and I've fired off a few emails to see what availability there is. I'll post the relevant info when I get it.

All I need do now is recce it!

Just a thought...
But we were up there with the CMC lot a couple of years back and we stayed in a large (ish) hotel in Broadford... worked out quite cheap too, B&B with evening meal... and we even hijacked their car park with about 15 Minis for the weekend... ;)
The bar staff were even kind enough to leave us with a couple of extra rounds of beers before going to their beds!!! :D
Unfortunately can't remember the name of it tho... but it looked out over the bay.... Very nice....

Monsta Mo Mini
28th August 2003, 10:36 PM
Gordy - We'll probably be stopping at the Maccy Dees at FW for a late lunch anyway.
Low_n_loud - I'll check hotels in Broadford as they're bound to be cheaper than Portree.

It is a retail park off the Edinburgh city bypass between the Gyle and Sighthill - at the large roundabout at the end of the M8 from Glasgow. It has a kind of "tented" white canopy outside the shops.

It has a large car park on two levels - the higher part outside Homebase and the other for the rest of the shops. It generally isn't too busy so it would probably be an easy place to meet up.

You'd be more than welcome to come along Euan (ELFMAN), there are still a couple of spaces left for the run. All you'd have to do is get yourself booked into the Royal (or one of the other hotels listed somewhere in the thread above).

Calum (Monsta Mo Mini) is finalising the route, full details will be available soon.

Start point is Stirling Services at 10am prompt on Saturday 25th October.

Would be great if you could make it along. You'd be made more than welcome

Ok peeps, you better all make sure that your baby's are looking good on saturday, as we may have a photographer from a new Scottish car magazine coming along for a look see!!
The reason for this grand outing is that BabyB is to be famous! The magazine is being launched in February and they have asked if they can use BabyB for the cover of their 2nd issue!:I:DOoooo-er!!
So, the guy says that depending upon his antics on friday night, he will try and make it for Stirling for some pics etc.!!

p.s. Are the Dundee folk going to stop in Perth to meet up with us?? If so, what time??

Do we get a "Block Discount" on the Skye Bridge?
Or do we do an "Italian Job" and go over/under/through the barrier? Just a thought.

Still can't download the bloody instructions...
Got one page then it went in the huff before I saved it.

Sorry to those folks I didn't manage to get a word with.

Very special big thanks, and well done, to Calum & Shirley for another well organised MINI excursion :approve:

Thanks to Karen and Kelly and the rest of our table for putting up with my alleged "humour", you're very kind, and some of you are VERY tall.... Cheers to Julz, hope the octane booster didn't BGR your BBR!

Very big thanks for the octane booster, could not believe going to the petrol station and struggling to find unleaded in amongst the diesel, so the chances of high octane fuel was beyond unlikely!! Made it home safe and sound, and need to refuel again, what a surprise!
